Not only is the Los Angeles Times reporting on the latest global warming scare, it is also informing us how Chicken Little and the other farm animals are being bred to resist the onslaught of global warming. Despite the fact that there has been no actual global warming for 17 years, the Times breathlessly informs us how scientists are working to produce the poultry version of a neck cooler in the form of chickens with naked necks. I kid you not. So what is the real motivation behind the rush to breed FrankenFarm animals? As usual federal grant $$$$ is the answer to the American Lysenko solution:

Chickens have a life span of 10 years, giver or take.
They will adapt to a changing climate just fine, thank you.
Chickens can tolerate some pretty hot weather - rabbits, not so much.
There already are chickens with no feathers on their necks. Mother Nature beat them to it.

50 years ago the answer to any climate involved in raising chickens, whether hot or cold, would have been answered with “air conditioning” add cooling to the building if it is too hot, add heating to the building if it is too cold.
Cheap, plentiful energy, is the answer to temperature issues and weather, and seasons.
I’n not sure that liberals having sex with farm animals will help much....
other than to have taxpayer subsidies for their past time.
Revenue source is grants, not sales. This is really laughable.

I have three chickens. They’re amazing.
When they’re hot,they hide in the bushes, fluff up their feathers, dig a hole in the dirt and lay in that cool hole.
When they’re cold they go into their little house, lay close to each other and soon enough that little house is a hot house.
I did notice they shed their feathers when the seasons change. I wonder why they do this? Certainly they couldn’t have something in common with my cats and dog, could they?
Global Warming on Free Republic
A) They are not “frankin” in any sense, but already exist as a NATURALLY naked-necked standard breed: Turkens, AKA Transylvanian Naked Necks.
B) It is a single-gene dominant, so no genetic slicing and dicing needed; just a viral pure blooded rooster.
Centuries ago, the Transylvanian peasantry bred these to decoy vampires....

I think Israel already developed the Frankenchicken, aka, the nekkid chicken.
They are gross, yet darkly funny, like a scene in The Frighteners... Still, just wrong. I have my first flock in a kiddie pool “brooder” in my craft room, feathering out. (And... We are not done building their coop.) I named them collectively after chicken dishes, though they are for giving us eggs first before hitting the cook pot or pressure canner.
Wow - how long did it take you to train them to do that?
