One need only pick a Ukraine article at random, pick any point in the comments at random, and they will find themselves in a sea of incredibly aggressive and hostile users (the most obvious have accounts created since February 2014 but there also exist those who registered with the Guardian before the high point of the crisis) who post the most biased, inciteful [sic] pro-Kremlin, anti-western propaganda that seems as if it's taken from a template, so repetitive are the statements. Furthermore, these comments are consistently capturing inordinate numbers of 'recommends', sometimes on the order of 10 to 12 times what pro-Ukrainian comments receive.
Guardian comment moderators believe this is an orchestrated campaign.

Those pics are awesome!
I’m not a Putinista, but I by no means take the western narrative of Ukraine at face value.
The bottom line is, Obama and the EU appears to have set this in motion more than Russia, which seemed happy with the status quo a few months back. Either Obama and the EU did it through gross incompetence (not impossible), or it was for some strategic reason. If it was strategy, you have to ask, was that strategy designed to serve the cause of freedom, honor, or even our national interests? Or is it more likely the strategy was designed to serve leftism and/or some banking/elite’s grand plan to enrich themselves and control something they wanted?
It’s not like this whole thing has a freedom/honor/goodness-obsessed ideologue like Reagan involved on one side, where sides are clear. Sure Putin is a shark, but so are the leftist/globalist/EU types on the other side.
Now, I’m not so sure Obama isn’t using his sanctions to try to get Putin to do something to our economy in return, to trip the collapse Obama has set up these last six years, so when the collapse/correction comes, he can say it was Putin who did it and not him.
I just don’t get why people even care enough to take sides. Unless FR loves Obama and the EU globalists now, you have two sides that Conservative Americans don’t support or trust in this. They are waging a proxy war which, if ignited fully, threatens to have Conservative US soldiers waging a full on war against another superpower, under the inept leadership of Obama and his group of idiot misfits, who might even hand command of our troops to the local EU leftists under the auspices of the UN, all of whom I trust even less.
I have a feeling Obama would love nothing more than to send all Conservatives over to die overseas, to cut our numbers back here at home. Even better, it distracts from what a massive incompetent he has been here for six years now, just as we are poised to sweep the midterms and maybe tar liberalism with the brush of total incompetence among our population. All as Americans are getting pissed enough to show up with guns when the fedgov moves it’s army to attack a simple cattle rancher, and we are buying guns in record numbers, and the global political scene is seeing a rise of nationalistic conservatism that terrifies the leftists all over.
The whole thing seems awful convenient for the leftists worldwide, just as their grips on power are slipping due to the resource contraction. I don’t want Putin running the world, and the US, but take a look at our POTUS before telling me we need to support our own government’s desire to get us mired in that mess.
Why would the US and the EU do this? To prevent Russia from gaining too much strength in the Middle East. Most countries can only handle one crisis like this at a time.
If you don’t mind my asking, what type of antivirus are you running?
The exact same thing can be said about Obama, Clinton, McCain, and the sodomite Globo-Marxists that control the EU.
Putin and Obama have the same goal: a broken, useless USA
We agree on Obama but what has Putin done or said that gives you the idea he wants a broken or useless USA.
And if for the sake of argument they do share the same goal they have a funny way of achieving with this Ukraine mess unless its to sucker American rubes into WWIII. Then its even more important to stay out Ukraine.
And I don't think getting rid of obama in 2016 will see an end of it.
I’ve seen that theory, and it could be. But the first big problem is that is a US national interest, which I don’t think the Kenyan bumbler really cares about enough to take action on. Plus, in my opinion, it wouldn’t have warranted the risk of creating a government-vacuum in Kiev and the associated instability, which anyone should recognize can go in any direction. It is also convinent for the money-men that by saying it was the mideast, it diverts attention from the fact they may be desperate enough to risk a world war over what is coming in Europe. Did somebody say propaganda?
The only thing I’ve seen that makes sense is Ukraine was drifting from the EU (wisely in my opinion), with last year’s pro-moscow trade agreement and the rejection of the EU agreement. The EU is like a big ponzi scheme. It’s coming down at some point, it will take all it’s members with it, and now any risk is worthwhile, to try and keep it respectable/operational as long as possible.
I don’t think it is a coincidence that the first thing the new government did was sign EU association and IMF agreements. Or that the second thing they did was ship all of their gold to the US, “for safekeeping.”
Just tested the link, no problems using it,
You mean with failed Marxist-Leninism, bread lines, grey drab buildings, gulag prison camps, and the KGB demanding peoples papers and disappearing them? I don't think so. That's what Obama has in store for us.
I don't think Putin's goal is in the interest of the U.S. or its European allies.
1.) Why not?
2.) How are Obama's and the sodomite's in Brussels goals in the interest of the US and Europe? How are they any different that what you claim are Putin's goals?
We have a brand new Russian sign up here who posts from Russia and posts only Russian propaganda and Russian defenses and arguments, outside of that he seems to have no interest in FR, or any reason to be here.
The ONLY thing I disagree with you about is whether or not Ukraine is in the US interests.
I define interests as economic and security. We have very, very little economic/trade interests in Ukraine. We have more interest in the Afghan Rare Earth Elements than we do in Ukraine.
I do not see a direct security threat there either. I doubt that Putin would put NATO in jeopardy. The Soviet leaders never had the balls to do that.
It will be interesting to see if this stuff shifts to the East. While China has interests in islands that are in dispute with Japan and the PI, Russia has some claims on islands there.
If we see it move to the East, then I will believe that Putin has more grandiose ideas. Until he either continues west beyond Ukraine/Moldova or East to piss off Japan...I think it is out of our national security interest.
Of course, that is a moving target these days, isn’t it?
I believe that Putin is quite willing to sacrifice the well-being of the Russian people to advance his grandiose design to rebuild the old empire. The FSB is currently not all that different in the domestic sphere from the old KGB in its methods and scope.
The one area of common interest we have (or should have) with the Russians is the defeat of religious terrorists. A united front against terrorism could have been a way to strengthen relations with Russia, and we have blown that chance. And, by the way, our failure in this regard goes back to the Clinton Administration. It pre-dates Obama by many years.
Well I did ask about it because their action precipitated this whole mess by supporting and instigating the overthrow of Russia's most important neighbor and strategic ally. Obama and the sodomite EU goals in Ukraine are a very pertinent, in fact, they are at the crux of this matter.
If I recall the old Russian Empire was a strong ally of the US for many, many years. The Russians were of vital help to us during the Civil War and WWI.
I agree we should ally with Russia against terrorists (and Globalists) but instead Uncle Scam gives advanced anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles to Christian slaughtering Al Qaeda foreign mercenaries to overthrow Syria.
Russia effectively exited WWI at the beginning of the Russian Revolution, in 1917, just as we began to send troops to Europe.
“Uncle Scam gives advanced anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles to Christian slaughtering Al Qaeda foreign mercenaries to overthrow Syria.”
We've been on the wrong side of these religious conflicts since the mid-1990s, during the Clinton administration.
