Benghazi: State Dept. Criticizes Issa for Subpoenaing Kerry Rather Than ‘Reaching Out’

(CNSNews.com) – A State Department spokeswoman criticized a congressional panel for issuing a subpoena Friday for Secretary of State John Kerry to testify on the Benghazi affair on May 21, saying if the committee had “reached out” instead it would have known that Kerry would be out of the country on that day.

“It’s highly unusual for a subpoena to be issued before there’s even an official invitation for testimony. I think everyone can make their own judgments about that,” Marie Harf said of the move by House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).

Harf said Kerry was scheduled to be in Mexico on the day Issa has subpoenaed him to testify on the department’s compliance with earlier requests for information relating to the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

She said the Oversight Committee would have been aware of Kerry’s schedule, “if they reached out to us instead of issuing a subpoena – I think by tweet, possibly. I guess that’s how they’re doing it now.”

Also, they need to subpoena the cow. She is the whole problem. Protecting her is what they are trying ot do.

Are the twenty-some Benghazi survivors who have been kept under wraps and mute all this (incredibly long) time going to be subpoened or invited to testify, also?

To me, this is the most interesting and potentially incendiary part of the whole ball of wax!

Do these State Dept morons think that Twitter is an official form of US Gov correspondence? What an idiot!

I am looking forward to a comparison.- White House agit-prop vs. hours and hours of depositions, recorded and in a private law office under oath

So true NRA, it’s all I could think when that little weasel did his ‘dude’ act with Bret. Hey punk, the 60’s were like 50 years ago dude.

As Oprah has vocalized her desire for older whites she deems racist to hurry up and die, thus ushering in their utopia, I await the day the old tired red hippies take a flying leap.

Well, Horseface, just maybe you DO have to look at your calendar - and CLEAR that date - or be held in contempt, brought in in cuffs if need be.

NO more games for you people, no “headaches”, no “fainting spells”, no “previous engagements” -

the jig is up - Gowdy doesn’t suffer fools gladly... and YOU, are in the top tier the greatest of fools

Lurch, don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. By withholding subpoenaed documents from Congress you have committed a criminal act.

and BTW, sKerry, a SUBPOENA is a SUMMONS, not an invitation.

It takes precedence over excuses, headaches, “previous” appointments, etc...

I kinda hope you do stonewall - I’d love to see your hiney perp walked in to answer under oath. One wonders if, even under penalty for false testimony, you and your cronies could actually tell the truth...you’re so out of practice.

Is this part of the Democrats’ plan to ignore the hearings? Simply declare that they are out of the country that day, so cannot appear before the hearing.

Next time someone from the OhVomit administration says something is Bush’s fault, someone should jump up and say, “Dude, that was six years ago!”

Great, isn’t it!

This is not going to be just an another exercise for show.

There’s some people huddling with their lawyers these days.

Another good thing about Gowdy - he doesn’t really like being a politician...he wants to get back to his private life. He’s there for the right reasons....which is why he’s make a good president.
