Benghazi: State Dept. Criticizes Issa for Subpoenaing Kerry Rather Than ‘Reaching Out’

(CNSNews.com) – A State Department spokeswoman criticized a congressional panel for issuing a subpoena Friday for Secretary of State John Kerry to testify on the Benghazi affair on May 21, saying if the committee had “reached out” instead it would have known that Kerry would be out of the country on that day.

“It’s highly unusual for a subpoena to be issued before there’s even an official invitation for testimony. I think everyone can make their own judgments about that,” Marie Harf said of the move by House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).

Harf said Kerry was scheduled to be in Mexico on the day Issa has subpoenaed him to testify on the department’s compliance with earlier requests for information relating to the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

She said the Oversight Committee would have been aware of Kerry’s schedule, “if they reached out to us instead of issuing a subpoena – I think by tweet, possibly. I guess that’s how they’re doing it now.”

The Watergate burglary was highly unusual too.

"I think by tweet, possibly. I guess that’s how they’re doing it now.”

I think the Pubs are finally figuring out how to do it. Avoiding Kerry to be out of town for the next year or two.

Do these State Dept morons think that Twitter is an official form of US Gov correspondence? What an idiot!

I think the message is that Congress is tired of being stiffed by the Executive branch when they ‘reach out’ for documents.

As if anyone with measurable IQ gives a smelly Obama about the State Department - a top contender for most useless colelction of lib arts majors in the gubmit.

Remember, in our state(less) department, 2 + 2 = 6 (for large values of 2, as 2 approaches 3).

Too stupid even for the senate? There’s always the State Department. (After all, isn’t that what happened to the Hillabeast?)

“... highly unusual....” - there is nothing usual about the action and/or inaction in the Benghazi matter. State is swimming in swill!!

The House must not let up the pressure. No fly swatters to be used, only sledge hammers - the State Department - individually and corporately, is responsible for four deaths of our top citizens/protectors. Hilary and minions must pay the price.

Sad that this is the best response they can come up.

It’s a real “”I was planning on washing my hair that night” excuse.

You “reach out” to your wife or girlfriend, not an alleged criminal. Democrats are so stuck in the hippie era and need to adjust.

There was OBSTRUCTION by someone under his leadership! It was only through a PRIVATE organization (Judicial Watch) that the obstruction was revealed. It is time to quit playing games with this.

They’re still pretending Benghazi isn’t far worse than Watergate.

It would be appropriate for the invitations to be printed in red to look like the blood they were responsible for.

This is expected.

Those mean Republicans will just be the opening shot of what will turn out to be a media hate-fest of those who challenge cankles and the way the State Department (and the rest of the administration) have been conducting bidness.

These are just the first drops of the sh*tstorm coming in the media.
