GOP Lawmakers Say They’re Furious After Discovering What Was ‘Hidden’ Inside Budget They Voted For May. 6, 2014 6:15pm Jason Howerton

That’s the lesson GOP lawmakers in New York reportedly learned after they voted in favor of a proposed state budget that includes millions of dollars in funding for the state’s hastily-passed gun control law known as the SAFE Act.

Hidden in the budget is a provision that permits the reappropriation of $28 million to fund a gun database and $3.2 million in new funding for SAFE Act “staff,” the New York Post reports.

One GOP senator, who asked to remain anonymous, said lawmakers were “told there was no dining for it.” He said he would’ve voted against it if he knew about the SAFE Act funding.

“Several Assembly GOP lawmakers said they knew only about the gun-law funding after a state Budget Division briefing,” the Post adds.

However, the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association hit back on Tuesday, claiming that Republicans knew exactly what was in the budget.

“The Assembly openly debated SAFE Act funding on the chamber floor in public session, ” NYSRPA President Tom King said in a press release. “Everybody knew the money was there.”

The release cites a report published on April 11 in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise:

This is Prime Example # 1 of why the Welfare State is out of control. The Leviathan just lumbers along no matter who is in charge, spending an ever-increasing amount on silly nonsense and unsustainable transfer payment programs. No one really understands what it spends. The morons in the legislature simply vote for it and when they are called on it, say they are “outraged” over the spending. But God Forbid someone propose a 10% spending cut — a real spending cut. They are pilloried as a hearless monster.

They knew exactly what was in it. They’re lying now to appease the electorate to keep/get votes. That’s all there is to it, nothing more, nothing less. Anyone who believes anything else is merely self-deceptive.

They knew but pretended not to.”
That way they could pass it and then claim ignorance.”

Those Rinos new exactly what was in the bill and voted for it.

BINGO. Your understanding of the facts here is the first post yet to get it.

Our current education system must not teach people how to read. What a poor excuse but in concert with corrupt politicians.

They knew EXACTLY what was in the bill. This just does not happen. Their leadership knew it, they knew it and the Democrats knew it.

They are blustering with this bullshit because elections are coming up. Just like their national counterparts, they prefer to appease Democrats rather than having to serve their constituents honestly

I believe every bill should be read out loud on the floor in its entirety before our various legislative bodies. It would be the quickest way to work our way back to the “limited government” principle our country was founded on.

Never vote for a bill you haven’t read

Never vote for a bill exceeding 40 pages.

The US Senate is worse than useless. We'c be better off if it could be abolished.

While I cannot disagree with you here, the vote the article discusses was in the New York state Senate.
