Celebrate The Recovery By Buying Restaurant Garbage (And Yes: There's An App For That)
Zero Hedge ^ | May 7, 2014 | Tyler Durden

In a move reminiscent of the Victorian Age, when those "downstairs" lived off the scraps of those "upstairs", a new app 'PareUp' is set to revolutionize the way the increasingly poor and starving masses in America feed themselves. As HuffPo reports, in a country that wastes between 30 and 40 percent of its food, PareUp is a new app that aims to connect consumers to restaurants and food shops with excess food - enabling the impoverished to benefit from the excess greed of the well-to-do by buying their used and forgotten food scraps (at significant discounts of course). "Good food is a terrible thing to waste," boasts the app - and rightly so - but is it not a dismally sad reflection of a nation, that opines of its all time high stock prices as indicative of its cleanest dirty shirt status, that we need this service (and there's an app for that!)

It is not a long journey from this to eating tree bark, grass, squirrels and rodents as is done in the People's Paradise of North Korea.

That's sad. My family is by nature thrifty, and I'd guess we waste less than 2% of our food. When bread starts to go stale or moldy (very rare), it gets toasted and turned into bread crumbs for cooking. Meat? That never sits long enough to go bad. Fresh fruit and vegetables get eaten before they rot, or bananas that are too brown become smoothies or banana bread. The idea of so much avoidable waste disgusts me.

You neglected to have “Conservatives” painted above the door of the lower one and “Democrats/GOPe” above the door of the higher one.

Only in some lib's mind is there no irony in the fact that these "impoverished" have smart phones. No doubt paid for by the excessively greedy well-to-do.

CORRECT !!!

They can have one or the other but natural law dictates it can't be both.

An "Obama Smart Phone" is a contradiction in terms.

Food and housing is far more expensive than smartphones.

Unlimited phone service is $50/month and a top of the line phone can be had for $30/month more.

You're not eating decent food in a city for less than $20/day and getting housing for much less than $1000/month

Yup. Last night's leftovers are today's lunch. Oftentimes - especially anything with strong flavors like Italian food, or jamabalaya (one of my specialties) - it's better left over the next day.

It would be nice if I had enough money to worry about wasting food. On my budget, I just worry about NOT wasting it.

It’s humorous, but with the massive amounts offered as EBT, hardly necessary...
