Methodists drop church complaint against open lesbian

A lesbian preacher in the United Methodist Church is being given a free ride.

After a complaint was filed against Sara Thompson Tweedy of New York, the matter was considered and the case dismissed. There will be no prosecution.

Rob Renfroe of Good News, an orthodox renewal United Methodist group, says there's no mistake about Thompson's lifestyle.

"She's very up front that she that is married to another woman…" tells OneNewsNow.

Renfroe describes her as a "proud, active, self-avowed lesbian."

Those who know our denomination know that the northeast, the great lakes, and the west coast regions are those that are dying. They are also radically liberal and in need of dying.

Those that are gaining are in Africa, and in the conservative congregations and districts of the south, west, and Midwest.

Fortunately, those who vote once every 4 years on our church law are selected in proportion to church membership.

IOW, as the liberal regions die off, they also lose their voice, their vote, and their place at the table.

This action by this wayward New York Bishop is because he is LOSING, and not because he is winning.

As in politics, liberals have NO problem lying and stuffing ballot boxes when it comes to their church groups. This has happened with the Lutherans, who slipped in non-members to vote at their last convention, and it will happen here as well.

These might as well be called “atheist” churches.

It’s not possible in our system. The delegates are elected by name in their various regions and announced ahead of time.

It would be like trying to stuff non-elected ringers into Congress to vote. Someone’s going to notice.

Yours is a hopeful reply. I have seen the difference when I travel south and attend UMC churches with friends who are still Methodists. Having suffered through the gay-promotion in the Philadelphia and Baltimore Conferences, I'm one who has left rather than continue to tithe into the UMC up here. May many more follow until the beast is starved.

The UMC in my neighborhood closed-up shop last Sunday after 95 years.

Sadly the two are not unrelated.

Liberals are now in charge of the the UMC. They will make happen whatever they want to. Please shake off the naiveté.

Its already ripped much of the Episcopal Church apart.

And just last week, I read that the gay bishop who started all the fuss in the ECUSA, Gene Robinson, is divorcing his "husband" after only four years of gay marriage. The man had no principles in dumping his wife and children for a man, and he has no principles in dumping his gay dude, even though the entire world Anglican communion's eyes are on him. Someone please exhume Dante so he can add another ring of hell to The Inferno.

The UMC’s in my large metropolitan area in Texas are also languishing. One close to me changed their name from “Methodist” to “Wesleyan,” presumably to distance themselves from the reputation. Still, the parking lot is sadly empty on Sundays.

They never leave and are never forced to leave. They know they can just hang around and continue to make things miserable until their foes leave.

What can I say? It's the Methodists - the same people chose the image of a dandelion - a weed, aka a tare (Matthew 13:25-40) - to represent their message.

I believe we’ve discussed this before, Albion, and I’m of the opinion that God directs the steps of His children. If He’s sent you in a different direction, then I believe He knew the light would be missing in the locations you would live. I have nothing but support for those who’ve had to leave those lightless churches whose candlesticks have been removed.

As for me, I pastor a bible believing, Jesus proclaiming, Methodist church in rural America. I think we are the TRUE Methodists. They are the phonies. And like you (or someone said) we should have ownership of the “Methodist” name and not them.

If an apostasy happens, and it looks like we’ll become a single island of Jesus believing Christians in a sea of apostate liberal deathodists, then we’ll leave.

In the meantime, our circumstances, unlike yours, make it possible for us to fight on a little longer.

We’re on a roll, fwdude. This is no time to quit fighting.

Jesus told us, “be of good cheer, I have overcome the world!”

We shall overcome!

That's her, on the left with the dark hair. Based on the comments on FB the older is the one playing "marriage" with her.

God bless you and your congregation, Pastor. I so appreciate your bringing your knowledge of the UMC’s organizational dynamics to the discussion. There seem to be few Methodists posting on FR; but everyone of us whose heart has been touched by Wesley and who is dealing with decisions about what’s left of his movement in America benefit by keeping in touch with others whose views add objectivity. Thank you again for your contributions here.

“Wesleyan,”

Wesleyan Churches are a different denomination and are more aligned with Baptists.

The Reformation was not about change in the sense of going “forward” to something new under the sun; it was about stripping away the frills and corruptions and returning to the origins of the Apostolic faith.

...if it makes you feel good, keep believing that...doesn’t make it true, however...
