Although syphilis was nearly eliminated from the U.S. about a decade ago, the sexually transmitted disease has resurged in recent years, mainly due to a rise in cases among gay and bisexual men, according to a new report.

Salversan 606 was used to cure syphilis prior to penicillin's use. There have been some medical professionals advocating the reuse of the silver based antibiotic because resistance to it is rare. It does have some side effects and complications though.

Are you talking about syphilis or Salversan? (snicker) Salversan can turn the skin blue. Ironic we used to use a variant of Salversan to treat dogs for heartworms. It was a combination of arsenic derivatives.
