CAIRO--(Reuters) - As the Egyptian state presses its crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood, the man expected to become president has deployed a new weapon in the battle with the Islamists: his own vision of Islam.
Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the former army chief who deposed the Brotherhood's Mohamed Mursi and is expected to be elected president later this month, has cast himself as a defender of religion and taken aim at the doctrinal foundations of Islamist groups the state is seeking to crush.
Striking a pious tone that sets him apart from former president Hosni Mubarak, Sisi also appears to be taking on the mantle of a religious reformer. He has blamed outdated "religious discourse" for holding back Egypt.
"I see that the religious discourse in the entire Islamic world has cost Islam its humanity," Sisi said in an interview televised on May 5. "This requires us, and for that matter all leaders, to review their positions." . . .Sisi has said there is no such thing as a "religious state" - challenging a central Islamist concept. . .

Well, good on him for calling for a “reformation” of islam. He’s signed his death warrant...
Good for him. He may not be perfect, but I like him a Hell of a lot better than the Dark Ages goons who were in charge before.

Interesting. Thanks for posting.
Wait ... a Muslim using his personal interpretation of Islam, to subjugate others? Say it isn’t so.
< /sarcasm>
That’s good. Islam is violent to its root and bone, and is based on a state that is ruled by religious law and the clergy, but as long as you have a leader that doesn’t put it into practice, most people would just be happy to get on with their lives. Of course, since Obama supports the Muslim Brotherhood, this will probably never happen.
I read the article twice and came to the conclusion Sisi is a Muslim Apostate, an Infidel collaborator, and a useful idiot for us Infidels.
Us Infidels got a real break here with him, and should support him.
Now if only he can do better staying alive than our other useful idiot Sadat, who was another traitor to Islam. -Tom
Maybe he can be Egypt’s Ataturk...
He got my vote just for getting rid of Morsi.
He seems to be going down that path.
If only he lives long enough.-Tom
Yup.
