Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) was the first lawmaker to vote against Speaker John Boehner on the House floor in January 2013. Now the GOP Establishment, and especially allies of Boehner, are looking to take him out.
Top GOP power brokers in Michigan are putting resources into the August primary race in which Amash faces businessman Brian Ellis. But as evidenced by Rep. Walter Jones victory in North Carolina Tuesday, defeating an incumbent can be a difficult enterprise. Jones has a similar libertarian ideology to Amash and narrowly bested a well-financed opponent who attacked him on foreign policy.
Amash has raised an impressive $1.2 million this election cycle and has $840,000 cash on hand. Ellis, has raised $829,000 over the same period, but $400,000 of that amount has come from a personal loan he made to his own campaign. It is that personal loan which provides the bulk of the $413,000 cash on hand the campaign reported on March 31.
As Breitbart News reported back in November, several local Michigan business leaders endorsed Ellis. They've been working hard to recruit additional local business support for Ellis ever since.
First elected in 2010, Amash, 34, has been a thorn in the side of the Republican House leadership since he was sworn in. In 2012, Speaker Boehner and the GOP Steering Committee removed Amash from his position on the Budget Committee as part of a "purge" of four conservatives from plum committee assignments.

I hope that Justin Amash makes it, if nothing else than to be a thorn in the side of leadership!
Justin isnt going anywhere. He represents one of the most conservative districts in the nation, and he is well liked. His ability to keep in constant communication with us (he’s my congressman) is nothing sort of spectacular.
The GOPe stooge that they put up against him hasn’t obtained any traction at all.
Have you seen the guy the chamber of anti tea party commerce has put up against Kerry Bentivolio? Dave Trott carefully avoids any mention of immigration or border control.
Boehner is a vicious drunk and is not going to go quietly.
Justin Amash is not going anywhere. He is doing a great job and I’m sure his constituents must be pretty happy with him.
The issue that keeps coming up is a shaky abortion vote but I don’t really know the particulars. I think (but don’t know for sure) that he voted no on ending gender choice abortions.
On the other hand, it doesn’t sound like it would have done much to stop abortions because gender choice abortions are pretty rare.
Again, I’m just going on internet chatter so you’ll have to do the research yourself.
You have it right. He voted no on ending gender choice abortions. He’s also a bit shaky on defense, and supports a two state solution to the Arab-Israeli situation. Overall, he’s better than most of them, and Boehner hates him, which is a plus.
He seems like the type the CoC likes their puppet candidates to all be like.
Dennis Kucinich was like that. The way his district was configured, a sensible Republican could've won here when he was gone. The ptb (both parties) disliked Kucinich's independence so much, they split his district into at least four different districts. Yup, the 'pubs gerrymandered away a district they had a chance in down the road, and the dems had no interest in saving him.
What's my point? Voters aren't stupid on the HOR level. They know who works for them and who represents a different agenda. I suspect the outside money against him will be an issue that helps Amash.
This is why I tell every GOP fundraiser to go to he!!. They use our money to attack us.
I thought they were going to stay out of the primaries and let the “people” decide.
Ohio conservatives need to elect whichever RAT is facing Boehner. We can afford to lose one seat, ESPECIALLY this seat.
And then give Gowdy the gavel.
I think I would give the gavel to Louie Gomert and keep Gowdy has the head of the Benghazi committee.
I have been saying this for a long time. It is very unlikely we will lose the House. It would indeed be sweet for Boehner to lose.
Unfortunately, it is a very Gerrymandered district -- 99.999999% chance he will win.
Boehner sits by and watches the Marxist destroy our Republic -- Boehner's response is to viciously attack Conservatives.
I say this with all seriousness, Boehner is an extremely evil human being.
I need to look at his district.. him getting 79% of the R vote is suspicious. Cornyn here in TX only got 59% of the R vote.
Must be some way to get the 21% who voted against him to GOTV for his opponent.
