In a closed-door meeting of wealthy contributors in Las Vegas, House Speaker John Boehner said he was “hell-bent on getting [anti-gun immigration amnesty] done this year.”
And earlier this week, the Speaker viciously mocked conservative Republicans for opposing him on this issue.
The wily Boehner had led his conservative Republican members to believe the issue was shelved for the year. Now it appears that Boehner is simply planting a trap for Republicans and gun owners -- springing this Obama-backed proposal when it’s too late to primary anti-gun Republican amnesty supporters.

Hi. I regret I am uninformed about boner’s election opponent. It would be unfortunate to give a seat to the other party but this guy is a loser. So I will wait to read what the more knowledgeable people post here. Thanks for your note

Speakership was his reward for it :>} The Conservatives lost control of the party by 1996. In the senate Lott was brokering surrenders of the right to the left as fast as they could be done.
Indeed. The fed cops do not want to have their jobs interchangeable with better cops or citizens who know guns. Job security is what they want to secure, even if it means bringing in Mexican cartels and muslim militias for their protection.

What type of deals was Lott doing?
In 1986, Ronald Reagan signed an immigration amnesty bill for about 3 million illegals. It was supposed to be accompanied by new enforcement measures — which never happened. Instead, the prospect of citizenship only attracted over ten million new illegals. And those granted amnesty in 1986 turned California from a “swing state” into an anti-gun nightmare.
A Pew poll from last year indicated that if illegal immigrants were given citizenship, they would vote for liberal, anti-gun candidates by an 8-to-1 margin.
IMO the real SML up till his death was Ted Kennedy. That is not an endorsement but rather simply the fact that up until his death he controlled what went on in the senate no matter which party was in power.
I do remember right after Lott took SML it was Paul Weyrich who was one of the first to raise concerns over his lack of ability to stand up and fight. The GOP had a two house majority and Bill Clinton was getting his way.
Paul Weyrich like Howard Phillips was true American hero and it drives me crazy that talk radio hosts don’t even bring up there names or what they did.
Quite obviously some big toes were getting stepped on and this was about the time the GOP-E was taking over the party. Weyrich when it started had programing control. He was voted out as CEO and it became Americas Voice. From there the format changed usually to a Conservative vs Liberal host. Bob Beckel, Bill Press, ellen Ratner, and a few others became co-host. It went down hill fast as was the whole intent after Weyrich lost control of programing.
