US getting weaker. Russia getting stronger. Isn’t this what Obama promised to Putin before the 2012 election? Words to that effect?

I guess diplomatic immunity didn’t apply or was ignored. The petitions would have no effect, but the confiscation gives Russia an excuse to take action against Moldova. Maybe Moldovan authorities wanted to find the Russian sympathizers in their midst, but this seems a blunt way to find out.

Diplomatic immunity was forfeited when he committed an act of war against Moldova directly in the Moldovan jurisdiction. Not only that, he is also liable for prosecution as a war criminal under the international laws, including those of the United Nations. He could one day end up before an international tribunal as a defendant for his role in the incitement of a war of aggression by Russia. His offense is one of the most grave which can be committed by a diplomat.
