UK 'journalists' epitomize snotty attitude toward U.S. gun owners

Maybe it's a resentment that goes back to their unsuccessful attempt to disarm subjects that started a rebellion and lost them a colony, maybe it's jealousy at being denied trust afforded their American cousins, or maybe it's just being aware they are subjects of a queen. Regardless, the snotty attitude toward U.S. gun owners, famously exemplified by unwelcome import Piers Morgan, is alive and well in the British press.

Not to mention the Poles of the 303rd RAF Squadron who saved their bacon during the Battle of Britain.

Actually nobody won the war of 1812, the idea that the US victory at New Orleans equals victory is a myth. The two nations inflicted heavy defeats in that war on land and sea, and the American invasion and attempted annexation/conquest of Canada in 1813 was an utter disaster.

And BTW, I am a descendant of Alexander Hamilton. And very, very proudly so. I would have been a ‘rebel’ in 1775-6.

America in 1776 was right to fight and was provoked into a war it never wanted by the stupidity and arrogance of the British. A war, btw, which was actually deeply unpopular at home, where many from public to politicians and press actually had great sympathy for the Americans.

It took the COMBINED efforts of the three great allied powers to defeat the Nazis. NONE of the three could have or did do it alone.

The British needed Canadian and American, as well as Empire, help and resources.

America, in NW Europe, Italy/Sicily and N Africa, in fact relied greatly on British manpower and resources, much more than people either side of the ‘big pond’ realise. Even despite your truly massive ability to create and move men and material.

And the Soviets wouldn’t have defeated the Nazis in the East without the utterly crucial Lend Leases of America and Britain. And we Limeys and Yanks and Canucks had the help of the Soviets taking on the vast majority of the German army eastward.

Agreed.

And my omission is even more shameful when you realise that my maternal aunt’s father in law is a Pole, who fought the Nazis and settled here in bonnie Scotland in 1946.

I just wonder how many Soviet deaths were attributable to Hitler and how many were to Stalin.....Stalin killed many Soviet troops as well.....and it didn’t stop until well after the war, see “Operation Keelhaul”. Soviets defeated Germany, in spite of Stalin.

No.

A bit. More the usual endless red tape.

Unless you have a bunker of the stuff, lol, not in my experience. Any problems would be owning what is deemed to be illegal or dangerous ammo.

Most of the 2.3m weapons are rifles and shotguns, so the ammo is pretty standard.

I am saddened and don’t know why you have an ire against the British.

Most British people like America and Americans, and I am one. I have visited your country, even briefly worked there, and loved it. Americans are kind and generous people, embarrassingly so. And many parts of the US are stunningly beautiful.

I hope you visit the UK some time and would welcome you here and would be happy to give advice on any visit.

Saved is a bit OTT, but I fully get your point.

More recent UK documentaries and books on the BoB rightly focus on the fact that many RAF pilots in the battle came from Norway and France to S Africa and Rhodesia, Poland and Czechslovakia to America and Canada.

Thanks.

I love looking at the fine double rifles. Alas, my pockets aren’t quite deep enough :(

Got it out of your system yet? I never said I have an “ire against the British”. I do have an ire against them constantly harking back to their supposed glory days of WW1 and WW2. You won’t like this, but a US combat vet of the Battle of the Bulge told me the British “didn’t know there was a war on”. His words. He’s dead now, so you don’t have to make multiple posts to him. I see PBS is showing a British show titled “Escape from Nazi Alcatraz”, about Colditz. I do not plan to watch it, but the title is off-putting enough for me.

Yeah, we didn’t know there was a war on, whilst the American cities of London, Glasgow, Coventry, Belfast etc were being bombed nightly by the luftwaffe, then again by the V rockets, and a million Americans were being killed, injured and made homeless whilst U-Boats tried to starve the US to death.....

All we British ask is to have our incredible and immense contribution and sacrifice to the two world wars respected and recognised, not ridiculed, by Americans.

That too much to ask?.

Well, maybe you shouldn’t have declared war on Germany (twice, 1914 and 1939). That was a joke, don’t get excited.

My original point was that I am tired of the obsessive bragging by Brits about WW1 and WW2. I did not disparage British bravery or losses.

And “Bomber” Harris certainly got his revenge tenfold for the bombing and V-rockets. His stated purpose was to kill as many German civilians as possible.

I don’t want to argue with a fellow Freeper and especially a fellow gun enthusiast. I do, however, stand by my original point, with no offense intended. I apologize if my comments offended you.
