Nebraska Primary, West Virginia Primary: A Fight Night Preview
rollcall.com ^ | 5/13/14

Posted on 05/13/2014 5:54:07 AM PDT by cotton1706

Tea party-versus-the establishment is the theme Tuesday night as voters head to the polls in two of the hottest GOP primaries of the year: open-seat contests for party nods in Nebraska Senate and West Virginia’s 2nd District.

CQ Roll Call’s political team will live tweet the races, and their reporting will be featured in this space Tuesday night.

West Virginia’s 2nd District – Polls close 7:30 p.m.

Former United States International Trade Commissioner Charlotte Lane, former Maryland GOP Chairman Alex Mooney and pharmacist Ken Reed are battling it out in the race to replace Republican Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, who is running for Senate.

Mooney has the backing of national conservative groups, while Lane, the early favorite, is the choice of the local establishment. But Reed put enough of his own money into his campaign and television advertising that no one is willing to rule him out.

The late assessment by state and national Republicans was that Mooney had the momentum going into Election Day.

Former West Virginia Democratic Chairman Nick Casey is expected to cruise to his nomination and take on the GOP nominee in a race that is rated Leans Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

Roll Call Politics reporter Abby Livingston will be live-tweeting Tuesday night as the results come in after polls close at 7:30 p.m. EST. Follow Abby here.

Nebraska Senate — Polls close 9 p.m.

In the Nebraska Senate race, Midland University president Ben Sasse, former state treasurer Shane Osborn, and Pinnacle Bank president Sid Dinsdale are facing off for the Republican nomination to replace retiring Republican Sen. Mike Johanns.

Sasse, a former Bush administration official with the backing of tea party and conservative groups as well as Republican Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Ted Cruz of Texas, is the frontrunner.

NE Freeper here, I’ll be voting for Sass for Senate and Rickets for the Governor.
Rickets worries me a little bit, but Bruning (AG running for Gov) is a corrupt establishment guy, so I’m more voting against him than anything. :)

Question for Nebraska voters. All 4 attorney general candidates are prolife.
I’m leaning toward Hilgers because a member of the Federalist Society. He clerked for a conservative judge on the 5th circuit appointed by Bush.

All these other candidates who are not prolife I’m leaving empty, especially since this is primary.

Bond issues I’m saying no to all.

So I have

Senate. Ben Sasse
House. Lee Terry
Gov. Pete Ricketts
AG. Mike Hilgers
State treasurer. Don Stenberg
Dis 12 state legislator. Mere Riepe
The rest???

Your comments welcome, unless your a rino supporter.

I’m in Florida....but pulling for Ben Sasse!!! Will be following the WV & NE primaries this evening!!! Just remember, along with all Freepers, this upcoming mid-term election may be the most important in American history.

IMHO....it determines whether or America lives on as a free, opportunity, equality and thriving enterprize nation or, we sink into socialism, communism, tryanny, corruption and third world status brought forth by Obama & his Obamabot Democrats. We must “All” turn out and vote, come November, 2014 to destroy the Democrat party...politically and with it, neutralize, Barack Hussein (The Lie King) Obama!!! Obama is no friend or ally of any American!!!

I like to savor my vote and double check everything to make sure we don’t give the country another Chuck Hagel or Ben Nelson (who I didn’t vote for) Hagel gave all the right answers and was military, but I should have known when I talked to him at a military ball, he was a phoney. He’s a spitter when he talks, and that’s what he’s doing to the country now.

I’m in line with you on pretty much all of your choices. I’m still trying to figure out my AG vote and have been doing more research today.
I know Pete Pirsch and have met with him on a few occasions. I know he is a conservative, but his closeness to Bruning makes me very suspicious of him as a cloaked RINO.

I know what you mean. I first voted for Hagel for all of those reasons and I too had talked to him at a local area event. When he was elected and openly stated that he was sent to the Senate to vote his point of view and not those of the electorate I was done with him. I’m still pissed that the Omaha World Herald and many GOPe pushed hard to support him to be SecDef. I knew what UpChuck would do and that he serves nobody but himself. Even Panetta had some common sense, concern for the military, and sense of honor. Hagel has none.

Hagel is worse than the worse of the left. He has sunk to a new depravity.

Chuck Hagel: Transgender ban in military should be reviewed.

“Are any Constitutionalists running against Capito(RINO-WV) ?”

There was a guy but he dropped out. Capito will be the nominee and the next senator from WV.

Do you have a ping list for the primary updates? If so, I’d appreciate being added to it.

No, but I post stories daily under the Elections tab. So you can get updates on what’s going on across the country that way.

Seems to me the rats could find a phony pro-lifer who would beat Capito.
