Ukraine crisis: Kiev talks open without rebels
BBC NEWS ^ | May 14, 2014 | BBC NEWS STAFF

Talks to end the crisis in Ukraine have begun in Kiev, brokered by international monitors, but pro-Russian rebels are not represented.

Ukraine's interim leaders and other public figures are at the talks, which are part of an OSCE roadmap plan.

The "national unity round table" was meant to be as inclusive as possible.

The interim government has said the annexation of Crimea by Russia this year cost Ukraine at least 1tn hryvnya (£49.3bn; $83bn; 60.5bn euros).

A day earlier, Ukraine's military suffered its heaviest losses to the rebels so far in the fighting in the east, where rebels control a number of towns.

You have to learn to pick you fights with this one and a few others...they see anyone who doesn’t agree with their cold war mentality as favoring Russia...they simply cannot grasp the entire picture...so they resort to name calling and insults...like most liberals do when they cannot face the facts.

I’m sorry you seek my civility, and don’t find mine complete.

If posting a picture of unarmed pro Russians in a 50 square yard area, can be summarized by you as equaling, “there are not unarmed subversives in E Ukraine”...than you have a reasoning problem.

Either that or you are a pure propagandist.

If you can’t see that reasoning, then I feel sorry for you, but it is what it is.

Watch it again with the captions and the caption translator turned on (underCC).

He says he is defecting to the Southeast, bringing much of his “Battalion” with him, “Cleared of Nazi’s”.

Have no idea if this is real, but I’ll see what more I can find...

“The jig is up. Russia is out.”

So far, every prediction you have made has been wrong.

You aren’t even trying to grasp the strategic situation, are you. Which begs the question, WHY ARE YOU HERE?

Ok....I have to go to work....but will be back later...

I couldn’t confirm it either...but there are others also defecting more and more....

IMO I do think Kiev/US Gov will have no choice but to do things the way Eastern Ukraine wants to ...rumor there are other options being considered without having to deal with Kiev. Time will tell.

I know more about intelligence, tactical and strategic situations then you could even dream of.

Russia has used these subversives as pawns and they are abandoned now.

They don’t want to pay the economic consequences of an invasion.

So, the subversives have little options.

1) They can surrender and vote
2) Stay holed up and not vote
3) Ukraine will elect one Ukraine
4) E Ukraine will also elect for one Ukraine

The only option for them is civil war.

....”Separatist leaders in Donetsk and Luhansk were adamant that the Ukrainian elections would not take place in their regions”....

That's only half true.... wasn't until after Kiev began killing people with their Army in the EAst...before that they had all determined to vote in the election...and wanted to....and Kiev had expected them to as well. Killing your own people isn't exactly the way to invite them.

Kiev/US Gov are slitting their own throats because they have idotic US Rep.s there with no experience whatsoever about how to do things.......except to sit around tables and pretend to ‘look like’ they know.’

This just shows again how inept Obama and this administration is that they can't even get people to the table.

...” Russia...They don’t want to pay the economic consequences of an invasion.”....

Wrong...Russia isn't going to take the bait...Putin has not once deviated from the fact he does not want war on his border.....and having his troops on his border is perfectly within his rights as a sovereign country. The Eu/US is egging him on by consistently battling for the Ukraine's lucrative areas that EU stands to gain from by absorbing them into their fray. Without the East..Kiev/US got nothing.

From the anti US, Russian propaganda perspective, I see your point.

From the objective perspective.

Every nation in Europe has NOT recognized the sham referendums by the subversives, including Russia lol.

Nearly every single European nation has castigated Russia for it’s illegal annexation and does not recognize this as legitimate.

Nearly every European nation sees Russia as the primary instigator here.

In the end, Russia has gained only what it already had...the naval yards.

But they have lost respect and gained fear, pushing Europe closer to the West, primarily out of fear of a rogue Russia.

LOL!
Sure ya do...
Sure ya do...

So how, with such a grand pronouncement, do you not understand what a serious diplomatic incident is??

Now, go back to playing Call of Duty, and let the adults chat, K?

Your forgetting one other option, (and there are more)...They can go with Russia if pushed hard enough to do so....

Putin's not game for that but if push comes to shove he will protect the industrial parks there....and the peoples jobs. Which is why this happened to the Ukraine Military equipment yesturday

That’s just nonsense....you need to find other sources besides what the msm is pushing...and look at the people ..who they are..where they are going...and what’s on the table or not.

The referendum spoke volumes regardless if legal or not..and the nations saw that and agreed...which is why the EU and US are at odds now...and will continue to be....

You can’t seem to grasp the political ends hanging out there for all to see if you choose to look.

I don’t understand how Kiev thinks it can keep Russian industry any more. Won’t it and the ethnic Russians just leave what’s left of Ukraine for Russia, which could absorb the already-Russian population and benefit from having the industry in Russia?

“they simply cannot grasp the entire picture...so they resort to name calling and insults...like most liberals do when they cannot face the facts.”

I’m trying to dispassionately look at this Ukrainian situation from afar, and wondering if it could happen here, say we have a couple states secede from the union due to an out of control federal government. And I wonder, would it lead to civil war, as it clearly has in Ukraine, and how military intervention in a secession twould be perceived, if it came to that. It would make the Bundy ranch situation pale in comparison, for sure. But some of these ra-ra-ra big government pro-war types think their opinions and posts somehow effects the situation on the ground in Ukraine. Bunch of keyboard warriors who can’t just contribute to a thread, without name calling and insulting. Their shit is getting old and tiresome.

By the way, we hosted a Russian foreign exchange student for a year, and their perspective on their own history is definitely different than ours, that’s for sure. I don’t think young Russians have ever come to grips with what the Soviet Union did to some people, quite frankly. They weren’t confronted with the Gulags, like the Germans were confronted with fascism and the concentration camps. Back to Ukraine, some of these people seem to be acting like they’re still fighting Nazis. That seems a little over the top.

Seems like Europe is a beacon of freedom to you. You realize the leader of the EU is unelected? And that Free Speech suppression, socialism, crushing of homeschool, spreading of homosexuality and islam, and the Green religion is their goal.

Strange birds to use as judges of freedom.

And yes, we can see that Europe is really scared of a Russian invasion. That must be why they began advancing NATO/EU east for the last 15 years until they finally hit the Russian red line of Ukraine. NATO/EUs insistence on
surrounding Russia and expanding right up to the Russian border is the problem here.

They probably think that because of the Right Sectors liberal use of Nazi slogans, emblems, salutes, torchlight parades, Bandera worship, Galican SS parades, etc. Finishing up by setting up an armed camp in the buildings surrounding the Rada to make sure they remain intimidated.

Say they aren’t in charge or whatever, but they are very vocal in their Nazi beliefs. That’s where that perception they are fighting Nazis came from.

Yeah I’ve seen the videos of the Right Sector and their Nazi symbols and such. They’re probably about as numerous as the “white Aryan nation is in this country. That seems like the same kind of hyperbole that the Maiden/ Kiev bunch uses against the eastern Ukrainian “separatists” , calling them “terrorists” and “subversives”.- Both sides are using a lot of hyperbole, when it comes to describing their adversaries.

What’s the defection rate in the Ukrainian army estimated at now?

I saw a figure of 50 % in an article a month ago.
