Ben Carson Weighs 'Calling' for Presidential Run

Ben Carson may be shifting toward a 2016 run for president.

Carson has said that while he doesn't have a plan to make a run, and would only do so if he felt "called by God." Now, he is "starting to feel it."

According to The Weekly Standard, the retired director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital said his thoughts about running for president have been affected recently by the enthusiastic audience he has received from across the country.

"Over the years, there have been many attempts to get me to throw my hat in the political arena," Carson wrote in his new book, "One Nation: What We Can All Do to Save America's Future."

"I have been offered support from around the country and tremendous financial resources if I decide to run for national office. But I have not felt the call to run," he wrote, adding that "If I felt called by God to officially enter the world of politics, I would certainly not hesitate to do so."

Ben Carson would make a pretty good HHS secretary. He’s simply wrong on the Second Amendment and that’s a huge no-no for me.

Ben is already doing the chameleon thing.

I seem to recall him saying some really stupid things recently.
Had to do with 2A.

No vote here.

Ok, so the doctor is not a constitutional scholar. But I like his stance on most issues. Also like his courage to tell Obama on his face what is wrong with Obamacare.

I agree with you 100% on those points.

So which constitutional scholar are you supporting in 2016?

The one who had memorized the US Constitution in High School - Ted Cruz:

3. His education in conservatism came early on. His teacher from an after-school education program picked him to be part of a traveling show about the Constitution. From The Weekly Standard:

Story chose four or five of his best students, led by Cruz, to join a traveling troupe called the Constitutional Corroborators. He hired a mnemonic specialist to teach them how to memorize the text of the Constitution up through the Bill of Rights. (Who wants to memorize the Eleventh Amendment?) Armed with an easel and felt pens, with Mrs. Moore or another parent at the wheel, the corroborators drove throughout Texas and occasionally beyond to breakfasts, lunches, or dinners held by the Rotary Club or Kiwanis or the VFW or any other civic group with an open slot for speakers. While the audience sawed away at the Chicken a la King, the corroborators wrote out various articles of the Constitution word for word. When the meal was over they’d take questions.

“The people just loved them,” Mrs. Moore says. “They knew so much, people couldn’t believe it! And you had to be a very polished speaker. Ted really worked at it. He’d practice at home in front of the mirror to get everything just right.”

Amnesty and anti-2nd amendment.

Maybe a surgeon general in a conservative administration but not a president or HHS.

I am supporting Cruz in 2016. He would be a great president.
I also like Governor Walker and senator Paul in 2016.

In the end it will boil down to who has the widest support in general election. I am not sure if Cruz is polling well among independents. 20% of voters call themselves independents. The nominee will need more than half of those voters to win in general.

I wouldn't worry about the polling at this stage of the game.

Reagan, much further in the Presidential election process AFTER the primaries, was polling 30%+ behind Carter and still managed to whip his butt.

The real work will be in convincing those who sincerely believe they have to find somebody who does not offend some special-interest group that the best choice is always the most principled choice that can communicate well.

Reagan was that choice in 1980 and Ted Cruz is that choice in 2016!

I was a Herman Cain supporter. ________________________________________________________________ So was I. But, when accused of sexual harassment by some old broads, he ran like a little girl and hid behind his wife's skirt. I LOST ALL RESPECT FOR HERMAN CAIN. If you're innocent, you stand and fight and say: I want to face my accusers on national television. But, he ran. He was guilty as hell.

I could definitely live with a Cruz/Palin Ticket as well. For my second choice, see my Tagline.

Senator Mary Landrieu of LA says she strongly supports the 2nd Amendment. Hell, let’s get her to run. She passed the test...... Run Mary; Run!

He’s a lot like Sarah, says it like it is without worrying about consequences. How will that play with the people? I think that’s up to us, to be sure the MSM & GOPe don’t get away with character assassination like they did for any conservative candidate in 2012. They picked them off one by one. We need to be ready this time.

Until then its a fact that the playing field is on a slope.

But Ben Carson has the same bullet-proof armor that O has, color. I'd never make that a reason to vote for someone but at least, if he's running and they attack him, we can scream our lungs out that it's racism.

And it would be prejudice, against conservatives, but no one wants to acknowledge that.

I like Carson too especially since he’s the only potential candidate I’ve heard with an actual plan to replace Obamcare and the passion to do it.

Medicine is his world and he sees how Obamacare is wrecking it.

This would be a good place to cite a source or two.

He's talking about a comment Dr. Carson made, something to the effect that he wouldn't want some nut in the hood to have an automatic weapon or similar. Anyway, Dr. Carson later said that he would not trust the government to regulate guns.

Gotcha!

When are we going to stop playing the left’s game. Dr. Carson made a comment that could be construed as against the 2nd Amendment soooooo he came out and clarified that we can never trust the government to regulate guns.

Time to stop nailing someone to a random comment, ignoring or refusing their defense or clarification, and making a campaign about a single gotcha moment.

Look at the man, who he is what he’s done, and what he wants to do.

As you know, Mary Landrieu would say she supports human sacrifice if she thought it would win her votes.

If Carson is going to run for the Republican nomination for President, he’s not going to win base support by being a gun grabber.

Also he displays lots of common sense and is not a lifelong politician. He might also succeed in breaking the choke hold democrats have on black voters. That is why they were afraid of Cain more than any others in 2012.

Obama, GWB, Bush-41, McCain, etc were not exactly experts in running a large organization SUCCESSFULLY.

Obama never ran anything, GWB bankrupted every thing he tried running, and McCain has been a senator with no executive experience.

Only persons with SUCCESSFUL executive experience running for president since I began voting have been Reagan & Romney.
