France says it won't fly American WWII vets over for D-Day anniversary
Fox News ^ | May 18, 2014

Seven decades after Allied troops stormed Normandy’s beaches and saved France from the Nazis, the surrender-happy nation is turning its back on hundreds of US veterans who want to return next month to mark the invasion’s 70th anniversary.

France has broken its promise to pay for the vets to fly to this year’s commemoration, according to Rep. Michael Grimm.

“Our chief-of-staff heard it from the French Embassy in DC — that they would be flown out to France [for free],” said Nick Iacono, a spokesman for the Staten Island congressman.

But when The Post contacted the embassy Friday, the French turned up their noses as if smelling rotten Camembert.

Screw France. They were not worth Americans dying for. They sure are paying the price now with their lovely muslim invaders.

Islam in France: THAT was the price of colonialism.

Uh actually, there would probably not be an America either if it hadn’t been for some of our allies, one of them being the French, who helped us enormously during our Revolution! They weren’t the only reason we won our independence, of course, but one of them; along with some Polish fellows and some Germans, and a few American Indian leaders! So we did owe them something. That said, I believe we paid them back quite a bit!

I'm looking for the articles about our government sending the vets over. I'm sure we're doing that,

I think you forgot the sarcasm tag?

It would not surprise me if their passports were confiscated...

You know most were white christian patriots...commonly known nowadays as domestic terrorists...

I have mixed feelings on this one. The French probably have a moral obligation. On the other hand it is 70 years later and a paid for trip would be a vacation for the men. We are not French nationals. We voluntarily entered the war for our own reasons not because of France. Americans seek a lot of “freebies.”

Don’t worry, I’m sure that genius John Kerry will smooth things over. LOL.

Time for Bill O'Bloviator to crank up his "boycott France" crusade again. Worked very well last time. Let's do it again!

Remember, when you go to the store, no French cheeses, no French wines, no French perfumes, no French naughty postcards.......

I’m not sure they have a moral obligation. But if the article is correct, the underlying source is the NY Post, they offered to pay the expenses, then backed out.

the surrender-happy nation

Unfortunately, given Obama as President, this might apply to Obama States.

As I said I have mixed feelings. If there was a firm contract to pay and then France backed out. That would sway me in favor of France paying.

That should say: The French turned up their noses as if smelling the stench of their very own BO.

There are Naughty post cards?
Are there even post cards?
If there are, they sure don’t cost a penny.

Any way, if these vets want to go, then WE should send
them, not what calls itself our “government”.
I would donate to such a cause if someone were assembling
such a tour.

I recall a story of a WWII vet in the 101st who was making a visit to France. When asked for his passport he realized he had forgotten it but asked could he be allowed to continue his visit.

the person behind the counter replied that no one enters France without a passport.

The veteran said last time he was in France he didn't have a passport.

Very arrogantly the person asked and just when was that.

The veteran quietly replied June 6, 1944.

More and more I agree with you. They say isolation doesn’t work - but hasn’t it worked for other countries?

But this does put us into a hashtag diplomacy doesn’t it - we will complain about what is going on but not do anything just like most of the rest of the world. Then what happens when somebody has to face off Iran? China? Russia?

And, how much of what we do is based on what global business wants...the same global business that wants amnesty? Who REALLY provides more than lip service for the defense of the American middle class?

One thing for sure, our current course is the course to bankruptcy. Probably exactly what Al Queda was shooting for in the first place.

I just can’t beat up on the french, there were brave
frenchmen in both wars and in the First world war they
suffered horrendous casualties. Had the US suffered the
same numbers as Verdun we would have been torn apart too
the second time.

Take what it cost for one vacation for King Obama and his idiot half and it would pay the way for these vets. Asking too much for our emperor.
