Large number of Chinese troops seen heading for China-Vietnam border

A large number of People’s Liberation Army troops have reportedly been spotted heading towards the China-Vietnam border as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate, reports Hong Kong’s Sing Tao Daily. Sing Tao Daily is generally considered to be aligned to Chinese state media.

Thousands of Chinese nationals living or on business in Vietnam have already fled the country amid anti-China riots, which were sparked by a tense standoff between Chinese and Vietnamese naval ships near a Chinese oil rig in disputed waters off the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea on May 4.

The Chinese foreign ministry confirmed Friday that at least two Chinese nationals have been killed and nearly a hundred were injured during violent protests last week that saw dozens of Chinese, Taiwanese and Hong Kong factories set on fire. The UK’s Guardian claims as many as 21 people have died.

As yet another large-scale anti-China protest was scheduled for Sunday, Chinese netizens reported seeing an “endless stream” of PLA soldiers in full combat gear at Chongzuo train station, apparently on their way to the 97-kilometre China-Vietnam border at Pingxiang city in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The soldiers were said to have been accompanied by tanks, armoured vehicles, missile launchers and other heavy artillery.

“I thought the oil rig was clearly inside Vietnamese waters. Nothing disputed at all. The Chinese are in the wrong.”

Geopolitical Science 101:

The one with the most guns, and the will to use them, gets to decide what is “disputed”.

Vietnam will implement a scorched earth retreat policy, make the Chinese pay dearly and with the protest ferver it will sell.

Both sides are communists, how do THEY gauge success or failure?

Baring in mind that each, respectively, controls their internal media.

“Obama famously pronounced that he has a phone, and a pen.

Has he found any more Red Ink, yet?”

I think that a hashtag is in order here.

Seriously, I believe that the Vietnamese might be the only enemy that China would seriously worry about. On Vietnamese territory, it would be a meat-grinder for them. The last time they tangled, the Vietnamese left a mark.

Is this China testing the US? Seems to me they did so when they went into Vietnams territorial waters to drill?

Appears China’s on the move now without much concern for how the US Administration would respond.

However, we fought Vietnam and we all know how that turned out....of course the Chinese will fight to win if it comes to that.

Vietnam needs to take control of the Rodney King style ethnic rioting inside its borders...or those borders will get redefined.

I wonder what side John Kerry will be on? I would guess he’d still be on Viet Nam’s side, just like always.

It would be sweet to see the ChiComs embroiled in Vietnam quagmire of their own.

Do you think the Chinese government will hamstring their troops the way the Democrats hamstrung ours?

I wonder whose side the US will favor this time.

We always have to stick our nose in wherever in the world there is a war going on whether it is Bosnia, Ukraine and now Vietnam.

Watch our GI’s die for nothing and those that come home broken, denied adequate medical care.

My poor country has chosen the wrong leadership for years.

How will the Vietnamese do without China and Russia supplying them with military hardware and expertise?

I think an equally big question is how will China do? They have not fought a war in a long time, and their troops are not highly thought of by analysts here. They have been building their forces, and I think their leadership would like to test them to see how their toys work. But it will be a long time before they are "battle ready."

China comes in and bombs the Vietnamese factories and transportation system. They don’t need to wage a ground campaign. They just need some troops there to prevent Vietnam from striking back on the ground. China doesn’t need to conquer Vietnam. They just need to ruin what little economy Vietnam has.

We tried to help the Vietnamese people out. We warned them about China. To thank us, they killed 55,000 Americans. The Vietnamese WELCOMED Chinese troops into Vietnam so that they (Vietnam) could send more men to fight the Americans. Maybe Uncle Ho will help them.

Uncle Ho hated the Chinese even more than the Americans and French:

“As for me, I prefer to sniff French s—t for five years than to eat Chinese s—t for the rest of my life.”

Totally agree. I don’t give a rat’s fanny about Vietnam. We already tried to warn them about the evils of communism. Might as well have sent a video of Animal Farm instead of 58,000 dead American soldiers. They can GTH.
