Not Winning the Senate Stings Republicans Most of All
The Wire ^ | November 7, 2012 | Dashiell Bennett

Among the themes of second-guessing and deep regret that are emerging of rubble of last night's election is the thought that the Senate could be under the control of Republicans right now if weren't for their habit of running supremely unlikable candidates. It was bad enough that Mitt Romney was soundly defeated for the White House, but what hurts even more right now is that Republicans, who at one point had hoped for a sweep of both houses of Congress, actually lost ground in the upper chamber. Depending on your definition of a poachable, that makes as many seven races over the last two election cycles that could have been theirs for the taking.

we don't win if the RINOs don't support constitutional conservative ideals. The US will collapse into regions or states, and normal US citizens will probably be no worse off for it....we might even fare better if governance becomes more local and with state's rights.

It's the globalist elitists and their quest to destroy world civilization if that's what it takes to increase their power that will collapse. I'm okay with that.

Thus far, they haven't. So, it's time to walk.

Before you take a walk, you need to know where you are bound, otherwise you end up wandering through the wilderness.

The GOPe long since determined they'd rather lose than allow a TEA party candidate win.

They got their wish, and now they're complaining?

There's a reason rational people call it "The Stupid Party"!

Exactly. I voted for Bevin. McConnel won. I’ll vote for the democrat in November. It’s more important to purge the party of these guys than win the senate.

Plenty of folks here on FR agree with you. Voting for a Democrat is something that I cannot do and will never do. You'll get lots of support here and from Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. Rather strange, isn't it?

“Maybe I just don’t get out enough, but I don’t hear “establishment” Republicans say they are going to stay home or vote for the Democrat when a conservative wins a Republican primary.”

If you lived in my congressional district, the old AZ-8, you would have seen the GOP-E turn on the GOP primary winner with a vengeance and elect Gabby Giffords. They also worked hard to keep her in power, cutting all funding to the primary winner in several elections and making public statements about how Giffords would be preferable.

Meanwhile, I have 2 Republican senators - John McCain and Jeff McFlake. McFlake ran as a Tea Party conservative and immediately went hard left after the election. He now follows John “I love Democrats” McCain like a puppy dog. Those SOBs will never, ever vote to reign in government power. They haven’t lifted a finger to hep Tombstone get access to their water rights dating back to the 1880s because the USFS has installed a “Wilderness Area” and won’t allow the pipes to be fixed. What use are Republicans like McCain and McFlake?

McFlake’s one vote to genuinely cut spending was when he was one of 3 senators who voted against restoring benefits to military retirees - benefits that had been paid for in advance as part of previous budgets.

You obviously don't get out enough, FRiend...perhaps you might recall:

Christine O'Donnell, Richard Murdock, and Sharron Angle, to name 3. The support they received from "establishment" Republicans was abysmal.

You’re right. You don’t get out enough. The GOP-e commonly withdraws money and support from our candidates. Mike Castle is a famous example in Del. In my old congressional district they pulled the plug on GOP nominee Randy Graf a few years back to elect Gabby Giffords. The GOP-e uses over and under the table betrayals when our candidates win primaries.

The GOPe long since determined they'd rather lose than allow a TEA party candidate win.

The winning candidate must capture all of the GOP vote, about 35% in most years, and then 16% of everyone else, Independents, moderates, Democrats, Libertarians, Hari Krishnas, etc.

And Hank Rearden kept fighting until he finally saw the light, thanks to Francisco d'Anconia.

I feel your pain. We have the great Senator Pat Roberts, who hasn’t lived in Kansas in 45 years and in the last two years spent a grand total of 100 days in the state counting, holidays and weekends. He’s looking out for us, though.

Stop sounding like Karl Rove.

We need leaders, men like Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Trey Gowdy in the Senate. How did THEY get elected? They would have been classified as supremely unlikable beceuase THEY TELL THE TRUTH about government and work to change it.

The GOP can take its supremely likable candidates, who stand for nothing but totalitarian government, and relegate THEM to the scrap heap.

How many times does the Republican Establishment have to lose to understand a "moderate" stance is a DEMOCRAT strategy. They try to get the "moderate" vote and lose all their conservative base.

You'd think they would have figured it out after McCain, but no, we got Romney, they lost again ... now watch them give us a Jeb Bush Or Cristy ... I've given up on them. I voted the last two times AGAINST Obama, not "FOR" a Republican Candidate. If that happens again this year, I stay home ... waste of time ... besides, I'm retired and the fish are biting.

Not really. They do not know where it will truly lead. I do. I’ve read the book.

Sure they do, they work hard against the candidate when they want to block a conservative, look at Joe Miller in Alaska, or the Scozzafava debacle, or Rove spending a week squelching O'Donnell's primary win momentum.

They will actually come out against the GOP nominee when they want to.

One comment I heard the other night from the republican senatorial campaign is that they intend to run away from any candidate who says something they deem stupid.

They, of course, will deem stupid anything the media deems stupid.

So the message to candidates is “nobody has your back.”

What a team!

Plenty of folks here on FR agree with you

You've been around since 2000. How's that (GOP Passed) Patriot Act working out for ya?

I remember '99 & 2000, and how hard I worked for Bush and GOP in my area, simply because we HAD to get GOP majority. Well, we were shafted, and if you think this will be any different, you're wrong. A GOP majority will only slow the destruction slightly. It will not stop it. Might as well get it over with and get through the coming storm now. Prepare. That is what conservatives should be doing at this point.
