Chamber of Commerce funnels $100K to back Thad Cochran

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has put $100,000 into the Mississippi GOP Senate race, backing up its pledge to help Sen. Thad Cochran defeat a tea party opponent in the June 3 primary election.

The powerful business lobby cut that big check to Mississippi Conservatives PAC on May 5, according to Federal Election Commission filings. Headed by Republican National Committee official Henry Barbour, the PAC has already spent nearly $700,000 helping Cochran in his race against state Sen. Chris McDaniel.

Chamber strategist Scott Reed told POLITICO earlier this year that the group intended to “strip the bark off” McDaniel in coordination with Mississippi Conservatives PAC. In April, the Chamber ran TV ads attacking McDaniel on the issue of tort reform.

In an email, Barbour said the Chamber is making a “big difference” in the race.

“They have credibility with regular folks down here, and people pay attention when they engage,” Barbour said, emphasizing the close ties between the national group and the Mississippi GOP establishment led by his uncle, former Gov. Haley Barbour. “They ran a strong TV ad statewide that exposed Chris McDaniel as a self-serving trial lawyer who argued Mississippi’s tort reform is unconstitutional. And that is the same tort reform that the U.S. Chamber helped make happen when Haley was governor.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce does not represent the best interests of this country and it promotes special interests over the common good. It supports the corruption of yet another thoroughly bought and sold career politician. Term limits are the only answer. Outlaw career politicians.

Article V. is the only way that W the People can take back this country.

More reasons to support McDaniel.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has declared war on the American people. Time to fight back. I say we visit their homes and remind them of their beautiful families.

Senator McDaniel is not and never has been a trial lawyer. The 100k is most likely a prepayment to Senator Cochran for his amnesty vote all set up by the Barbour lobbying firm. I wonder how much of that 100K comes from Sanderson Chicken? It appears the Republican party of Mississippi is dependent on the Barbour lobbying firm and Sanderson Chicken.

Scott Reed of the Chamber of Commerce was campaign manager for Bob Dole’s 1996 presidential campaign. He’s another GOP-e bad penny.

I predict that if Thad wins Tuesday and wins in November, he will serve about 6 months and then step down AFTER he has made a deal with the Republican Governor of Mississippi to appoint Haley Barbour to that Senate seat to finish out his Term. Then, you’ll have ol’ “Twangy-tongue Barbour” for another 20 years unless the cholesterol gets him first and he has a massive heart attack from too many hot dogs and milk shakes. I’m telling you, Thad is not running to serve 6 more years. This is all planned out for Haley Barbour to get that Senate seat.

I believe Mississippi requires a special election within 100 days of a US Senate vacancy.

An appointee doesn’t get to fill out the balance of the full term.
