Gun used in slaying of girl, 14, touched many hands
Chicago Tribune ^ | 24 may 2014 | Jeremy Gorner, Steve Schmadeke and Steve Mills

Before the 14-year-old girl allegedly fired the shot that killed Endia Martin, the .38-caliber revolver had touched many hands.

A south suburban gun shop known for selling weapons later used in crimes in Chicago. A Hyde Park man whose mother did not want the gun in their home. A former Atlanta man now living on the South Side who would appear to be a middleman of sorts in the gun's journey. The paralyzed uncle of the 14-year-old girl who, prosecutors charged, rode a bus to give the gun to his niece before the fatal confrontation. Someone at the 14-year-old's side at the confrontation who was savvy enough to quickly fix a malfunctioning gun.

And then the suspect, the honors student who authorities say fatally shot 14-year-old Endia for the most mundane of reasons — a fight over a boy.

You know the reasoning - "If the gun hadn't been so readily available, she'd be alive today!"

And if we just outlaw drugs, there will be no more drugs for addicts to feed their habits with.

It take an incomprehensible moron to attempt to make an argument to cast the responsibility for an act of evil upon an inanimate object.

Or they are simply another component of the very same evil.

Pick one or both truths.

This breaking news article is dated May 2nd. This is at least the second time I have seen it.

I know the owner of Chuck's Guns. He's a very nice and conscientious man. They operate strictly by the book and if they didn't, because of all of the scrutiny they get, they would have been shut down long ago.
They are the only gun store in the near south suburbs that sells handguns, or probably any guns for that matter. They sell a lot of guns to police, security guards and honest citizens. It's a very busy shop and they are inundated with people trying to be deceitful. I have seen more people kicked out of the shop than actual purchases.
One of the activists the article is referring to is Father Michael Pfleger. During one of the demonstrations against the store he urged his follower to drag out the store owner and snuff him out.

The problem is gangsta rap music which glorifies violence in all these situations.

None dare say it on the evening news.

White kids from the 'burbs listen to just as much gangsta rap as black kids from the 'hood do. No, the problem is that blacks tend to be hyper-aggressive and have poor impulse control.

Blaming music is just as useless as blaming guns. It ignores the real problem.

Father Flaky should have been defrocked decades ago.

I can’t believe this happened in a modern American city

Where have you been living for the last 40-50 years, on some tiny mid-Pacific island with no means of communication with the rest of the world? Similar "gang related" homicides take place in virtually every large "modern American" city several times a month, a few less in some cities, a few more in others. As a general rule, the more draconian the city's gun laws the more frequently these things happen.

Of course there are exceptions to that general rule. For example, several southern cities which don't have strict gun laws, Atlanta, Houston, Miami, etc, also have above average murder rates. However, in almost all cities of all sizes racial demographics play by far the most significant role in the homicide stats as well as in overall crime stats, not the availability of guns or lack of same.

Call me a racist if you want for introducing the facts of the matter into the discussion. But never the less the truth in re the matter is the truth, and politically correct denial can't change those very evident facts.

Wow, how Christ-like of him! I wonder what his parishioners think about him urging a violent mob to savagely murder an innocent human being for simply performing a completely legal commercial act?

Begs the question, what kind of America are we now living in? Certainly not the kind I was born into 77 years ago, that's for sure.

“they are completely morally depraved.”

They’re depraved on account they’re deprived.

Since his parishioners blame the gun and not the gangbanger holding the gun, I doubt it even crosses their minds. You're quite right about the 77 years.

Even Al Capone's Chicago wasn't nearly as violent as Rahm Emanuel's Chicago.
