All murder is sick. I don’t see any difference between people driven to murder by jealousy, passion, greed, postpartum, etc. It’s all the same, and they should all be punished.

When you are defending the liberty and property of yourself and your loved ones, that’s not murder, it is justified killing.

Mental. So suddenly or chronically? Why would anyone KEEP IMPREGNATING a mentally ill woman? She should be tried and executed and he should be sterilized.

Fathers—men- do not suffer from post partum depression which includes major hormonal changes that mya occur during pregnancy and giving birth.

Well...now, let see...it appears you have just gone back to the dark ages..psychosis is demon possession, and clinical or post partum depression, well we can just lock them away in an insane asylum.

There is a difference when there is brain dysfunction or psychosis( as occurrs in postpartum depression)..it is medical, physiological not just “ emotional” in the normal sense.

How about you all do just even the smallest amount of research into mental illness before you start posting.

It IS a tragedy because had the woman received medical help this wouldn’t maybe have happened. There are many women who have serious post partum depression, but get treatment from their doctors and thus do not go into a full blown psychosis and kill their children.

Denying the existence of this disorder, or calling it “just another crime that was ‘chosen’” just keeps people ignorant about the disorder and less likely for the woman to get help or her family getting her help..Now THAT is the real tragedy.

Andrea Yates husband kept getting her pregnant when all the doctors told him NOT to go ahead with more pregnancies.

If we are going to execute this woman, then lets execute all her family members who did not intervene. Now that would be fair.DUH.

Correct.

However, is it impossible that men, father, can be under sufficient stress to induce similar psychotic breaks?

Why do we just assume a killer mother is not responsible for her actions, but that a killer father is?

I know there are psychiatrists and psychologists and other assorted professionals that love to conjure up all kinds of alphabet abbreviations for various afflictions of the human mind. And, to be certain, doing so contributes to the professions cash flow. I got all that!

The facts don’t change though just because they slap a post partum analysis on this woman overnight.

She butchered her own 3 babies. The question is not “is she insane”? That she is is clear as the driven snow and in her case her insanity is irreparable.

Some would say that society should house, clothe and feed her, and pay Psychiatrists and Psychologists to dote over her for the next 50 years ala Charles Manson.

I don’t agree.

The question is what to do with her.

Manson cost millions and millions to imprison all these years. As a society, we are broke! So, my question is ........”Is our society as insane as this woman for spending billions on the Manson’s of the world?”

Murder is murder. It is always insane. I don’t need some pile of stinking psychologists to tell me they should be payed to hold their hands.

Three children. At some point she must’ve realized what she was doing. She kept killing. The very thought of a knife gives me chills. She had no such qualms.

Part of that is because post-partum depression is chemical imbalance of the brain, due to the various pregnancy related physical changes in the female brain/body.

That’s not exactly the same as a man snapping due to external stressors of failed relationships, job losses, money troubles or addiction issues.

Apples and oranges.

There's nothing in the article posted that even discusses the motives or reasons for these murders, much less post-partum stress, father's stress, or anything else. Right now all we know is that 3 babies are dead and their own mother killed them. Tragic.

But to deny post-partum depression and psychosis exist puts one into the Tom Cruise realm.

Post-Partum depression is not irreparable. It is entirely treatable and is frequently self-repairing and requires close monitoring to make sure it doesn’t downward spiral into a psychosis that results in murder or suicide.

If she was having a psychotic episode, she was disconnected from reality completely....who knows what her mind was telling her?

Manson was not psychotic..he was a sociopath who knew exactly what he was doing. a sociopath is sane, but evil.
Manson was very much in touch with reality.Evil, lacking normal social ability to related to others in a normal way...but NOT psychotic.

we have come a long way in the treatment of mental illness. with therapy and medications, most people with some sort of mental illness can now lead normal, decent happy lives...But then, why don’t we just throw all that away and if someone gets depressed or anxious, just tell them to pray harder and then lock them away...no need to hold their hands.

I think you might feel differently if one of your relatives were sick, had emotional problems. I think you would want them to get help.

Fortuantely YOU don’t get to decide who has a mental problem and needs treatment and who is just “bad”. Otherwise we might be like the soviet Union or China who just lock up people who are sick and those who aren’t.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. And, I would not tonight take exception to your “general” statement. Moreover your statement in some cases might be applicable.

But, this homo sapien killed three babies. Myself, and I suspect millions like me, believe she is not NOW subject to any “clinical” diagnosis. We AGREE, without reservation, that she is insane. So, shrinks go home. We don’t need you!

So, please, let’s get past all that and on to “what do we now do with this piece of flesh?” You feel sorry for her and analyze her all you want. We just want to discuss what society should do with her?!
