Redskins president Allen to U.S. Senate: Our Team name 'has always been respectful'
Yahoo Sports ^ | 05/24/2014 | By Eric Edholm

There is a groundswell of pressure to change the Washington Redskins' team name, which some argue is offensive, a movement that gained some steam with a letter signed by 50 U.S. senators calling for action. The letter referred to the Redskins' name as being an example of "racism" and "bigotry" and managed to make a connection to the NBA fiasco with outgoing Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

This prompted a reaction from the Redskins. Team president Bruce Allen countered swiftly with a response to Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid in a letter of his own. The theme of Allen's three-page letter, which clearly was carefully and thoroughly researched, was that the name is a respectful, positive one — not the racism that Reid and others are claiming.

Some notable pieces of the letter, including the facts that Allen presents:

• "More than a decade ago one of the foremost scholars of Native American languages, Smithsonian Institution senior linguist Ives Goddard, spent seven months researching the subject and concluded that the word ‘redskin’ originated as a Native American expression of solidarity by multi-tribal delegations that traveled to Washington to negotiate Native American national policies.”

• "The highly respected Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania surveyed Native Americans nationally and reported that an overwhelming 90% of respondents said the name was not offensive. More importantly, Native Americans continue to embrace and use the name and logo."

It is a stylization of war. Maybe that’s why peaceniks have a problem with it altogether.

There was also more attention to actual history at that time. Kids still spent considerable time with this marvelous technology called books. It was not a diet of entertainment only.

If we could only get 50 Senators to sign a letter saying we need to end deficit spending.

As it happens, my grandmother, in like 1930, was beautiful, as your word is defined

Got a photo of her displayed. It’s a portrait. It’s not one of her belly dancing for a public audience. Would I have such one displayed even if she had done such a thing, which, our being a respectable family, no one in our family either side has ever done such a thing?

Would you want to, or even feel right a to have such a photo, or film?

Why not? (If not)

Spent a few happy hours at the officers club. Would I go in dressed in a bikini variant and then act the way the ‘cheerleaders do? No. Would you? Or would you feel ok about your sister, or your wife doing so?

Why not?( if not)

Call it whatever you want Say I’m using hyperbole. I don’t think I am

Those cheerleaders entertain no one but boys and overgrown boys. Not anyone else.

But they are not a threat. Nor is the name of this team

I hear the dances have gotten more explicit. They used to be mainly jumping around and pom pom shaking. That’s what I knew in high school. Boys didn’t need a lot of display anyhow, they knew what was what.

People are floundering around for an idea of good (and evil).

I think part of that is because, instead of building upon what previous generations have done, the current generations think history started when they were born. Those who do not build on the values of previous generations end up thinking things like gay marriage are a good idea.

Still, I find the name offensive...if we keep saying it over and over again, more people will take it seriously in the insane world we see around us...

The sarcasm potential is great with this.

“Are half the people in the USA “gay”? You’d think it to look at today’s TV shows.”

How the worm has turned.

In the old days, if you were gay, you would pretend to be straight.

Now, if you are straight, you might want to pretend to be gay as good career move.

“Come on, don’t give them any bright ideas.”

You know what might be funny. For one home game (and I mean one only), it might be fun to have fat ugly cheerleader night.

You could make it late in the season when your horrible losing team (might even be the redskins) is way out of the playoffs and only playing for who gets the first pick in the draft. And for entertainment, you put the fattest, ugliest women you’ve ever seen on the field in skimpy cheerleader outfits.

Here’s a secret

Birth control pill makes women’s bodies pregnant without the baby but hormonally

The phermones they emit are not attractive to men (post pubescent males)

They act and dress provocatively to feel attractive to men /or to feel normal.

Then commercial entities work this.

Then other women and girls follow along with the program instead of saying, no, I have self respect and I respect my family and friends so I’m not going to act and dress like that

The escalation in hooker wear, behavior and treatment was predicted and without the chemical component

Humanae Vitae

I did not find them to be unattractive, I've always heard the argument that being freed of fear of pregnancy they became more promiscuous. I never experienced that phenomena either.

A “groundswell of pressure”? Coming from the ruling class? This fake journalist doesn’t know what groundswell means.
