Apparently the players are proud to be Redskins, not embarrassed. Beyond me how the name is in any way “offensive”. The fact of the matter is, there are different skin colors. Whether there truly are different races remains to be determined in my opinion.

I am glad there is still someone out there not allowing themselves to be bullied by the liberals and Obama.

“My grandfather was Irish. Notre Dame’s team name perpetuates a stereotype of the Irish, implying that we are unusually combative. Guess what? I’m not offended.”

You are not offended because there are multiple versions of Irish people in the mass media.

For a long time, there was only one version of the indians in the mass media and that was of a bunch of indians surrounding a rancher shooting up the place until the US cavalry arrived to save the day.

Furthermore, the US army never fought a war against the Irish and no every said “the only good Irishman is a dead Irishman” (except maybe in England).

Basically, if you are white, it is a lot easier to have thick skin when there are many different versions of whites on tv. It is much harder when there is only one version and that is negative.

Well, well, redskins called themselves redskins. (And presumably called the Europeans, palefaces.)

Where does this liberal madness come from? (I know, it comes from hell.) It’s possible to refer to a society, a race, which chooses to self associate, in terms that can not possibly have an inherent meaning of either good or ill. Would it be pejorative to call hypothetical green Martians, “greenskins”?

I wish “redskins” would “fight like Indians” but to “kill” the enemies of their own sloth and hopelessness! The Washington team ascribes more fight to them than they do.

LOL.

Would you rather be a redskin or a politician ?

I am going with redskin.

Elizabeth Warren, not one to lead from behind, is eagerly soliciting opposition to the Redskins name. Her very authenticity as an American Native is at stake. This whole affair, which is resurrected in every decade by the same suspects, is done this time in the name of legitamizing princess Warren’s claim to redskin heritage.

From an email I received....

Here is an email (purportedly) sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins.

Dear Mr. Page...

I always love your articles. and I generally agree with them. I would suggest, as in an email I received, they change the name to the “Foreskins” to better represent their community, paying tribute to the dick heads in Congress.

Here are some other politically correctness to consider: I agree with our Native American population . I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay.

We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.
Let’s ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60’s alive . Gone. It’s offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population . Do you see a team named for the Confederacy? No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men’s lives.

]I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names. Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged . We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children . The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children .

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic . Wrong message to our children ..

The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates . Wrong message to our children .

The Milwaukee Brewers-—well that goes without saying . . . Wrong message to our children.

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should . Just the kind of thing the do-nothing congress loves . . .

As a die hard Oregon State fan, with all of this in mind, it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women’s athletic teams to something other than “the Beavers .

I just watched an old Daniel Boone recently. The good of everyone no matter white, Indian, or Irish was presented as triumphing over evil.

So where does this one version that is negative come from that you speak of? I suspect it is you find what you are looking for..............................

Social change is not about forcing people to believe what the majority does, but rather opening up minds to the possibility that the way things used to be done might not always be the best and proper way to do them now and in the future.

In 99% of the cases, they way we do things now are much worse than previous generations. What you see going on in this country and Europe is the collapse of Western Civilization.

Here’s a classic dust up. One side yells racist and bigot so the other side cannot back down because to do so would validate the labels thrown at them.

Right out of the Alinsky playbook.

People are floundering around for an idea of good (and evil). The trouble is not that there are too few. There are too many and they constantly not just form paradoxes, but contradict.

I grew up watching the same stuff you did and I think there was a very negative overall portrayal of Injuns on tv.

I did not watch Danell Boone but I did enjoy watching F troop. Most indians on tv were more like “the shugs” and not “the Hekawis”

I stand by my statement that for tv of that era, most of the time the lone white rancher was single handedly holding off about 100 screaming bloodthirsty injuns and when the guy is down to his last bullet, the US caucasian cavalry arrives just in the nick of time.

If we ever needed proof TV was born to craziness, we have it now.

Are half the people in the USA “gay”? You’d think it to look at today’s TV shows.

Of course Dan’l Boone was a specific focus on a specific issue, and dramatized to boot.

Football is a game of war played out on a football field. The Indians of past were brave and gallant warriors. Naming a team the Redskins is a tribute to these Indian warriors of past.

I find it very offensive. The cheerleaders peddle porn

They have a right to be there, so nothing is said about it.

And in the old classic kids’ game of cowboys and Indians, getting the Indian role wasn’t considered to be getting the short end of the stick. Lots of pretend tomahawks and scalpings. The cowboys had the thunder sticks, the Injuns their archery, and both rode horses well.
