Bodies of 28 Veterans At LA County Morgue Will Finally Receive Proper Burial

The bodies of 28 veterans at the L.A. County Morgue were finally moved Friday for burial to the Riverside National Cemetery.

CBS2/KCAL9 pressed the L.A. County Coroner’s Office Thursday to find out why the bodies had not yet received a proper burial after a source indicated there may have been as many as 60 veterans at the morgue for the past year and a half.

The morgue says the bodies were unclaimed and they don’t know how long the veterans were there.

The law states veterans are supposed to receive a proper burial.

The Veterans Administration says they were never notified the bodies were processed and ready to be buried. More than two dozen bodies were transported to the Riverside National Cemetery Friday afternoon and more could be moved as they are identified.

On Friday evening, KCAL9′s Stacey Butler reported the LA County Morgue and the Veteran’s Administration were blaming each other for the mistake.

No dog tags to ID the person? My take is these are recent vet deaths.

Some had been there and refrigerated for 18months.

That's all that need be said at this point other than for the VA to claim the morgue had not notified them the bodies were ready for BURIAL (it looks like they were notified the morgue had unclaimed vet bodies) is absurd.

At least now they are at proper rest.

What’s the problem? At least the VA facilities have well-maincured lawns...and the furniture in the administrative office is new and nice.

Right now, there are thousands of Democrats thinking, “We could use these Veterans for medical tests”, and they won’t see the horror in thinking that.

So were they homeless vets? That’s the only possibility that makes any sense that I can think of.

This whole VA thing just gets worse and worse. It’s shameful!!

Most likely they were homeless. That makes me so sad that they had no one to claim them.

Dignity Memorial provides burial services for veterans who cannot afford it. I am. I am not sure if they take donations or not.

We who have the means to due in large part to the sacrifices of these men and women owe them at least this much.

I imagine that some were homeless; others probably outlived their spouses and didn’t have any kids or immediate family members to claim the bodies and handle the arrangements.

Incidentally, the VA embarked on a massive program about a year ago to get homeless vets off the street. I’ve been told that the number of homeless vets has dramatically decreased, as more were placed into treatment facilities, shelters and veterans homes. Then again, those claims were coming from the VA, the same people responsible for secret waiting lists and at least 160 dead vets, who were denied care, or forced to wait months to see a doctor.

At this point, no one should believe anything coming from the VA.

I had absolutely NO USE for Shineski after he ‘stripped’ SF of their uniqueness.

I guess he did it in ‘Fairness’ cause the ‘Green Beret’ made the OUTSTANDING Outstanding.

” That makes me so sad that they had no one to claim them.”

I wonder if one could adopt a veteran post-mortem so they would a least have someone to visit their grave now and then? This is really tragic.

Here is a resource I’ve used for friends and family; I don’t know if there is one for veterans:
