GOLETA, Calif. (AP) — It was Friday night when Elliot Rodger's mother got a call from her son's therapist that he had emailed a ranting manifesto about going on a deadly rampage.

The mother went to her son's YouTube channel and found the video in which he threatens to kill people. She alerted authorities and set off frantically with her ex-husband to Santa Barbara.

If I recall correctly, it was a headline on Drudge that read, “Father blames politicians and NRA.” It is down now and I may not have read that article.

Personally, I believe Drudge is usually a pretty good source. I read other articles on this tragedy and watched a few of the videos.

If I am wrong on something, a simple reply stating the facts will usually do.

I reserve judgement on this horrible tragedy....although I directly hold the killer’s parents directly responsible for their son’s insane actions. I want to see exactly who and what this Satan maniac really was!!! My gut tells me “Hollywood Liberalism” is all over this, with his parents, his doctors, his family hid the nutcase in the closest....protecting him!!! But....we shall see....when the real truth opts!!

I suspect little, nutcase Rodger “Pajama Boy” was a flaming Obamabot in 2012.....but, we shall see!!! Funny isn’t it....seems since Obama became POTUS, we endure these incidents as a much higher rate then ever before!!! Why? Liberal/progressive/left-wing, Democrats, and secular, non religious lifestyles, drugs and unfettered, government corruption & crime across the board!!! Welcome to the “Hell” of Obama & Company!!!

So the parents were so worried about him after turning 18 they kept funding his BMW, designer sunglasses, computers, schooling, etc? They basically funded a terrorist. Willingly. No respect or sympathy from me for those limousine selfish parents. His whole life they gave him everything he wanted to assuage their guilt and pawned his problems off to other people. Even now they hide behind lawyers and spokespeople. They created and kept feeding this monster and now it’s evceryone else’s fault so they can keep their place in Hollywood society

Not one to blame LIBs for “everything”... In the 60’s, didn’t the LIBs close mental hospitals with the vague hope for “community care”? How’s that workin’ out?

Since when is making a couple of phone calls good parenting? Why did they keep supporting a 22 year old they knew to be dangerous? They paid for shrinks his whole life in the same way they pay for housekeeping and landscaping - so THEY didn’t have to do it. This who!e mess is an indictment on selfish detached celebrity parents and the systems they support

there is nothing in this case history that would merit involuntary commitment

the standard of “being a danger to himself or others” was never met, this kid was smart enough to cover himself, and he was 22, way past parental control over his medical decisions or even being able to know his medical history without his consent

the so-called therapists engaged by his family really SHOULD be called out for malpractice. If they were doing due diligence to him, to his family and to the college and community, he should not have been able to fool them into believing he was merely eccentric

I know I saw a couple of articles. When my husband said the father of the shooter blamed the NRA etc, I told him, no it was a father of a victim. I then had to apologize after seeing another article stating the shooter’s father blamed them too. I cannot locate it now, but it was there yesterday.

I fear that these 2 fathers will end up in a kumbaya press conference, both claiming victim status and both blaming the NRA and 2d amendment for Peter Rodgers’ kid’s insanity

I give a pass to the Dad of the Martinez boy who is crazy with grief, I see Peter Rodger cynically hitching his empty wagon to the victimhood train

...could have prevented this

I wonder. By some accounts, the things that were done to check on him when there was warning might be what tipped him over the edge. This kid comes across as the same kind of nutty as the Newtown killer, only less isolated.

The real question that has to be answered is "why are so many young men so crazy?" They seem to be totally disassociated from any normal human emotion of those who suffer from their actions.

Until we figure out what's wrong, nothing's going to solve the problems. The ones who actually commit these crimes have to be only the tip of the iceberg of the numbers who seriously think in these ways.

I wonder.

Yeah, fact is I wonder too. He was very glib, very articulate, able to put a sentence together in his little screed. It was so smooth I doubted its authenticity. It isn't how I'd expect a person that disturbed to write. But the crazy does come through, boy does it ever.

...this kid was smart enough to cover himself...

Yep, gotta concede that point. His text wanders from "hey, this guy is completely rational" to "WTH? This guy's crazy as a coot!"

I think the opportunity was missed when they let him get to 18 and independence without documenting just how serious this was. So how in the world do you allow for locking crazy people up legally without the state abusing it? Been thinking on that. No answers yet.

This wasn’t a spur of the moment action. It developed over many years and was probably obvious to everyone in and around his family. Mom and dad just supplied him with money and toys and hoped for the best. The therapists involved had a money tree so no real progress was made as long as the money kept rolling in.

EXACTLY! The maniacs can’t be forced to take medication, can’t be locked away for their safety and the safety of others, etc., etc.

Sometimes a person is beyond help of anyone. this young man no doubt had an extreme disorder, the people to look at are the parents.

And sometimes the parents are trying to get that help and are rebuffed by the professionals. A lot of these disturbed kids can make the parents look paranoid and controlling.

I read the 140 page manifesto, the killer had numerous psychiatrists, some lasted only one session.

His father did not blame the NRA and politicians. The father of one of the victims did. Get your facts straight before spouting off.

Within the first 15 minutes of the father's documentary "Oh My God" the father is slyly making fun of Christian gun owners.

And they used to be able to have them committed, but no longer the ACLU has seen to that.

Shame on them for trying to exploit this tragedy.

Shame? The Left doesn't even know how to spell it, let alone experience it.

I'd say we should celebrate them running down a blind alley, especially those running for office.
