Majority says child born outside U.S. to one American-citizen parent isn’t a “natural born” citizen

The easiest prediction of the 2016 primaries is that Republicans will have a profound change of heart on who is and isn’t “natural born” once more of them become better acquainted with the circumstances of Ted Cruz’s birth.

For now, though: Disqualified.

Fifty-two percent overall and 53 percent of Republicans think you’re not “natural born” if you were born abroad to an American-citizen mother — and yet, when asked point-blank whether Cruz is eligible to be president, 55 percent of Republicans say yes versus just nine percent who say no. When asked the same question of Obama, the split is 31/55 even though the Birther scenario in which O was secretly born in Kenya would put him in precisely the same situation as Cruz (born abroad, citizen mother, non-citizen father). Does that mean the GOP electorate’s destined to turn on Cruz once more of them discover where he was born, fearing that his immigrant parentage and Canadian birth have left his loyalty to the U.S. hopelessly compromised? Er, no. A reversal on this subject is far more likely. After all, you can define “natural born” various ways — by place of birth, parents’ citizenship, or some combo thereof. For example:

We should have all of our laws interpreted by majority polling data. What could go wrong?

So 52% of Americans are Constitutionally illiterate, good to know. I expected the number to be higher to be honest.

The MSM, who couldn’t give a damn about Obama’s eligibility, now care ?!

There will be an all out attempt by this Communist MSM to sink all Republicans candidates. Eligibility matters when its an (R), never for a (D)

There are a great deal of differences between Obama and Cruz.

First, Obama was born in Africa to an American mother and a Kenyan who never became a citizen that was not quite old enough to confer US citizenship to her child.

As for Cruz, he was born not too far over the border in Canada to a Cuban political refugee and an American mother who could confer US citizenship to her son and his father soon became an American citizen.

Well, I do not know, but my son’s mother is a citizen only of the Philippines. Our three year old son, born in the Philippines is a US and Philippine citizen. He has had a US passport since his first year. He would not, however, be considered a “natural born citizen”.
According to Chapter 19, §212 of “Law of Nations”, the concept “Natural born citizen” is a twofold criterion meaning that:

“According to Chapter 19, §212 of “Law of Nations”, the concept “Natural born citizen” is a twofold criterion meaning that:
Both parents must be the citizens of, and the birth must take place in the concerned country, assuming that the citizenship inherited by this child and the loyalty are never changed ever after.”

Yes. Rebranding the Birther Ping List to Constitutional Eligibility Ping List chopped the flack to near zero, while maintaining the core message.

I didn't. It's the logo of a golf equipment company.

After Obama’s “elections”, all bets are off. That old standard no longer applies to , dare I say it? The New World Order; where rules are made and unmade as they go along. This administration has broken several molds and models of proper civilized behavior, and they continue to do so to this day. This is at least the 5th time they ‘accidentally’(on purpose) leaked classified data in a public forum. They put Plame to shame! “How much do I despise thee, Oh’ let me count the ways....”

I don’t know the current status, but there used to be a law conferring citizenship on children born to officers serving abroad.

The Cato institute and Mark Levin say that Ted Cruz is a natural born citizen. That’s enough for me.

' his father soon later became an American citizen.'

2005.

If Cruz becomes Pres, he will have a Canadian[Canadian citizen] and British[Commonwealth citizen] pedigree.
