Editorial | Graham race could illustrate tea party’s influence in SC

The headlines following Tuesday’s political primaries proclaimed the tea party movement has been diluted as mainstream Republicans such as Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell scored victories.

From the Washington Post: “After years of intraparty turmoil that cost Republicans key races, voters this year are coalescing around the GOP’s strongest candidates ahead of November’s general election, when control of the Senate during President Barack Obama’s final two years in office will be up for grabs.”

Teaparty.net responds: “The headlines that we’ve seen since Tuesday are brutal for our movement. CNN, MSNBC, and even Fox News, have all been pushing a uniform narrative: the Tea Party is extreme and the defeat of individual candidates MUST mean the destruction of the entire movement. That’s wishful thinking on their part because we aren’t going anywhere!”

Among the politicians for whom the news about declining tea party influence should be good is senior South Carolina U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, who faces six challengers in the June primary, all of them trying to lay claim to being the conservative and tea party alternative. They claim the senator is not conservative enough for South Carolina.

And they claim the tea party, particularly in South Carolina, is not going anywhere, each looking to claim as much support in the name of the tea party as possible.

With the results in Texas and if we succeed in taking out Cochran next Tuesday, Graham will be next (along with Cantor) on June 10th.

I haven’t forgotten about Lamar. But there’s been no news on him and one election at a time. He’s not till August.

For those of us who routinely put up with this line delivered in all seriousness, at breakfasts and lunches, the humor is lost. But I know you stand with us! 8>)

The Tea Party is not dead, but we’ve been badly wounded because we had idiots like Tod Akin and Richard Mourdock for candidates. Matt Bevin also turned out to be a disappointment. Dr. Milton Wolf, running against Pat Roberts in Kansas, has proven to be a stupid a** for posting X-Rays with comedic lines on the internet. Now, my greatest disappointment, Chris McDaniel is refusing to answer interviewers questions about the “Nursing Home Scandal”, making him look guilty. Holy crap.... WE ARE OUR OWN WORST ENEMY.

Not to argue this old point but...

At least one of those "idiots" not only had ZERO support from the Republican Party but had bigwigs in the GOPe campaigning AGAINST him in the primary.

We get it that you’re not a McDaniel fan and that “we are our own worst enemy” with the TEA candidates we put forth and that you like the independent guy running in the MS race, etc etc.

Maybe McDaniel is going by the old adage of when your enemy is killing themselves, stay the heck out of the way....or, giving him (Cochran) enough rope... yada, yada. Just maybe.

That’s not true. I was and still am a McDaniel fan. He is one of the few politicians I’ve ever sent a campaign contribution to. A lot of people have invested money, energy and time into his campaign. He does not need to be playing “Dodge and Duck” on the Nursing Home Scandal. Answer the questions, be honest and stand tall. Don’t squirm like a worm. I am so disappointed I could die.

And one more thing.... You really think that Cochran and his chief crony Haley Barbour, with his Hillbilly twang, are really “killing themselves”? Sounds like they might have the upper hand in this fiasco. That’s why Chris needs to be honest and hit it freakin’ head-on.

If the good people of South Carolina do not get rid of Graham in the Primary, here is the guy who is going to take him out in the General Election by running as an Independent. If Graham loses the GOP Primary, he will not run; otherwise, he will. He is a former GOP State Treasurer, he hates Lindsey Graham and he has a lot of money, a political family and very high name recognition in SC.

Here’s some good news for the McDaniel Campaign that I just ran across. I hope they make political hay out of this. Thad’s chief advisor and mistress, from whom he rents a “room”, has held fundraisers in that house for DEMOCRATS on more than one occasion.
