President Romney Basks in Latest Triumph
New York Magazine ^ | 5/29 | Jonathan Chait

When the history of this presidency is written, it will record that bold, progressive reforms dramatically reshaped the face of government, thanks to the vision, creativity, and political will of one man. And that man is Mitt Romney.

President Obama already has Gina McCarthy, who designed Romney’s cap-and-trade program in Massachusetts, running the Environmental Protection Agency for him. Coral Davenport reports today that the administration’s new regulations of power plants, due for release Monday, will be designed to expand the structure Romney built:

As governor of Massachusetts, Mr. Romney was a key architect of a cap-and-trade program in nine northeastern states, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. ...

Officials with the northeastern regional cap-and-trade program that Mr. Romney initially endorsed have played a significant role in shaping the new rule. In frequent trips to Washington over the last several months they have consulted with Ms. McCarthy and other top E.P.A. officials.

It’s Cap-and-Mitt!

Cap and Mitt.Photo: Joe Raedle/Getty Images Romney, of course, created the prototype for what became Obama’s national health-care plan, and proposed to take his plan national, before learning upon closer inspection that his plan actually amounted to the end of freedom in America. Now Obama is sneakily stealing another Romney accomplishment, thus transforming it from a centrist, market-based reform into a socialistic monstrosity.

This is really going to set back Romney’s hopes of winning the 2016 Republican primary. On the other hand, why would Romney even need to become president now? He’s already won.

I'm sure President Romney would've been better than a second Obama term.

But I couldn't say how.

Sadly when national or regional cap n tax kicks in, juice will be so expensive we probably can’t afford to fire up our computers to head to FR.

Romney pushed gay marriage, now polygamy.
Romney pushed RomneyCARE, now ObamaCARE.
Romney pushed illegals for him, now open borders.
Romney began the attacks on conservatives, now everywhere.

No surprise that the GOP rat also pushed this
global warming nonsense. No surprise at all.

Anything Romney would do that might hurt the country would be more accidental, or part of political deal-making, than deliberate.

Everything Obama is doing is deliberate.

It would have been marginally tougher for House Republicans to oppose statist proposals from Romney than it has been for House Republicans to oppose them from Obama.

Was shocked to see Fox news “The Five” include Romney in a series of video clips of “conservatives” criticizing Obama’s woefully bad speech at West Point.

And to think there are FReepers that believe Romney would have been better than Obama.

One thing would have been worse. If Romney got elected, we would have amnesty now.

But that is exactly what the Liberals want. That way we will pollute less. It is all part of a plan to tax the wealth away from the middle class so that we are beholden to our keepers.

McCain obsession is replaced with Romney obsession. Nice transition.

A fruitful distraction, for the left. Eat our own (or circular firing squad if you prefer), that is.

The difference is that these things are appropriate for states to do, but not the federal government. Little thing called the Constitution, I believe, which quite intentionally put few limits on the powers of states.

I respectfully disagree wrt to open borders because that can/ will ultimately affect the whole country & the taxpayers.

Strange, everything used to be Bush’s fault. Now Obummer has morphed into Romney and it’s all Romney’s fault, even to the extent of calling him President Romney. When thing go bad, always blame it on a Republican.

“Sadly when national or regional cap n tax kicks in, juice will be so expensive we probably can’t afford to fire up our computers to head to FR.”

With multi-tier pricing, all you are going to be able to afford on the Internet is 300 baud, so electricity is not really an issue.

You have to admit, this is propaganda at its finest.

Control of the borders obviously is, or should be, a federal responsibility.
