Come June 3, voters in California's northern counties who have complained about being neglected by the state Capitol for years, will have the opportunity to take their intention of forming the nation's 51st state, "Jefferson," one step closer to becoming a reality.
Voters in Del Norte and Tehama countie --with a population consisting of roughly 91,000 residents--will decide if they would like to join Glenn, Modoc, Siskiyou and Yuba counties in forming an advisory board to explore in greater depth the logistics surrounding the creation of "Jefferson" state, according to the Associated Press.
As many at 16 Northern California counties could opt into the effort to secede from the Golden State amid complaints from the region's residents who are fed up that they "have no representation whatsoever," citing the fact that there is only one state senator for 11 of the region's counties compared to 20 in the greater Los Angeles and 10 in San Francisco's Bay Area, the AP notes.

Nevada, California, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico were all formed out of land ceded by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

There was a Utah Directorate that was not a State, that covered much of what became Nevada.

BECAUSE currently a petition in Calif circulating right now is to divide the state into 6 states (not 2). The petitions need to be turned in by July 18 2014 to be on the Nov. ballot. Something like 850,000 signatures are needed.

Utah became a territory which included Nevada. In 1861 Nevada became a separate Territory. Nevada became a state before Utah,.
Therefore Nevada was not made a state out of the state of Utah.

California should be broken up into about 10 States.

The formal controversy about the legality of the annexation of Texas stems from the fact that Congress approved the annexation of Texas as a territory with a simple majority vote approval instead of annexing the land by Treaty, as was done with Native American lands

The issue of secession is one that is subject to great debate, however, the actual resolution, as granted by the Congress of Texas, stipulates about all I need to know...they don’t mention the right to secede when they decide they want to. They do mention division of Texas into separate states, but not secession...
