A soldier attacked over the weekend at a bar by a gang of six Russians may never move again, his family said today. Specialist Korry McClanahan, 25, was set upon and beaten outside Steel Creek American Whiskey Co. in Tacoma, Washington, where he had been playing pool with a friend on Friday night. The father-of-one's family are now holding a bedside vigil at Madigan Army Medical Center, where doctors were forced to remove a piece of Spec. McClanahan's skull to relieve swelling to his brain.

The attack happened after Spec. McClanahan and his friend, also a soldier, stepped outside the bar to smoke and they were approached by a group of men, speaking in Russian, spoiling for a fight.
Spec. McClanahan, who had only moved to nearby Joint Base Lewis-McChord from Fort Hood, Texas, a few weeks ago, tried to walk away from the confrontation but the group 'bum rushed' him, according to his friend. He was punched so hard in the face that he was knocked instantly unconscious, hitting his head on the sidewalk as he fell. The soldier says the men then piled into a black Infiniti G35, model year 2005 or 2006, and sped off into the night.

I have seen quite a few people beaten like this over the years. That’s why I have a pistol on my hip pretty much anytime I exit the house.
Good point. They may not have been Russians.
I read elsewhere that there was a verbal altercation and someone from the bar asked them all to leave the premises.
Like many of these incidents, the soldier’s injury seems to have come from hitting his head on the pavement as opposed to a severe beating.
The Serbian woman I dated was a sociologist and had interviewed war criminals from all sides of that war right here in the USA. Some were in American prisons and some were right out there in public. In many cases they didn’t even want to be here but can’t go home for some reason or another.
The melting pot is becoming a toxic stew.
Yes it is.
And I would dearly love to hold responsible the pollyannas who upbraided anyone who expressed reservations about unlimited immigration. Xenophobe, racist, etc.
But they will have slithered away by the time the wheels come completely off.
All I know is that I’m reasonably certain from my observations about them is that they sure as hell aren’t working a 9 to 5 job earning a decent living. They wouldn’t be out at all these places all times of the day making trouble if they were.
No, neither of those things “blame the victim”.
The first one, that the two men and the Russians had words in the bar before the fight, would explain the seeming irrationality of a group of Russians without reason or warning suddenly attacking them outside of the bar.
The second explanation was that something about them identified them as soldiers, and that the Russians hated US soldiers. Again, a motive to attack them.
Neither of those blames the victims.
I never implied either thing *justified* the attack. I just suggested two potential reasons for the attack, to explain the seemingly irrational act of six men attacking two men they didn’t know outside of a bar.
So, this would mean the first supposition was correct.
I take it that you've never frequent bars or taverns that have pool tables.
Having done some time as a bouncer and bartender I can tell you for a fact that unprovoked attacks on strangers are far from infrequent.
Usually the attackers have liquored up well before the event and have been spoiling for some fight and favor the sucker punch or head butt without a word. There certain clusters of drinkers that as both bouncer and bartender I paid particular attention, listening to the conversations to detect if one was being goaded to a confrontation. Time to cut off their drinks and escort them out and not always gently.
One of the worst situations I witnessed was in an historic NYC tavern. Two guys walking towards the exit with beer mugs suddenly and without a word smashed their mugs across the faces of two men who didn't see them coming. The perps fled without a word pursued by staff who held them for the cops. The damage to one patron was severe, gapping wounds that almost cost him his eye. That's just one story.
As for your conjecture that the Russians did because of their hatred for US servicemen, I say fuck the Russians, this is Tacoma Wash, USA. Kill the bastards dead right there and leave their bodies in the sound,
You were clearly speaking of someone else, some other "two young men".
It's clear to me now.
(I hope they catch those other "two young men")
The US is closer to being a 3rd world country then Russia is today.
Given where our medical care is moving, the level of unemployment/poverty, the totalitarian nature of government on every level, the poverty/victim mindset of a LARGE percentage of the population of every group, the only thing that is different about the near future US and Cuba, is that we have newer cars.
Maybe they were Chechen muzzie refugees.
Is it just me or do a lot of bad things happen in and around bars?
Pure bred brutes is more like it.
Seems to me there can’t be a lot of Russians in town. My worry is that they were sailors and are now out to sea.
