Saying things in a supposedly private conversation, which some declare to be racist, is not a crime. I hope he wins.

He hasn't been charged with a crime.

Agree or not with Donald’s views he was pursacuted for a “thought crime.” The NBA is likely to lose this one.

What prevents the NBA from fining and banning him for 'thought crimes'?

Now he will get $2 billion plus $1 billion = $3 billion

He's not going to win with the NBA. And his wife will get half of everything else.

You forgot that since the NBA forced him to sell, he may be able to skip paying capital gains taxes on the sale.

The only way he avoids taxes is if he's forced to sell and he invests the proceeds in a similar industry, like another sports team. Well, the NBA didn't force him to sell. The sale was announced before the owners had a chance to vote to strip him of his team. Bad timing on his part.

Oh, I don’t know. If someone is declared mentally incompetent you might want to take everything they say with a grain of salt.

If someone knew of his condition and was taking advantage of it to cause him harm, either financially or reputation wise, I would call it abuse at some level.

If someone is declared mentally incompetent then can they initiate legal actions on their own?

Hard to prove.

So he had to sue, as he is, and lose. Then it's involutary and he gets 1033 treatment.

Brilliant!

I'm assuming you left the </sarcasm> tag off.

Not sure. Kinda weird but I think I heard that under the nba “constitution” they can “force” the sale. Sounds un-American to me.

Racist or not it appears Sterling has a reasonably sound case and the NBA knows it.

It looks like the old boy is going out with guns blazing.

They can, if enough owners vote to do so. But they hadn't done that. So he can't make the claim he was forced to sell.

Think of it as any other franchise: Break the rules (or just tick them off) and they can force you out, depending on the contract you have. Happens all the time in all kinds of franchises.

Yeah, fallout from this story is going to go on for a long time. This could rival the Kardashians before it’s over.

Attaboy. $2 billion plus 1 billion more...

I believe the Sterlings will get the two billion for the franchise plus a settlement from the league.

They don't deserve it, but they know how to play hardball and the league will pay to protect their enterprise.

This is how the big boys play their game of legal extortion.

Sterling is no racist. If you want to talk about racists, look to Ralph, Barry, Eric. These are the racists. Also those idiots in the leftist new media. And especially the jerks in the NBA. I hope Sterling gets his 2 billion plus his 1 billion and the NBA and all those loud mouth players like LeBron can go play before empty arenas. I for one will never watch an NBA game again. Not on TV, Not in an Arena. And I like basketball. But not their kind.
