Did Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl go AWOL in Afghanistan?
CS Monitor ^ | 06/01/2014 | By Brad Knickerbocker

After five years as a POW, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is headed home. But the circumstances of his capture by the Taliban in Afghanistan remain unclear, indicating he may have walked away from his base.

For now, the story for US Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is one of physical and mental recovery and reunion with his family.

But very soon it will involve debriefings about the nearly five years of his captivity by Taliban fighters, who apparently held him in Pakistan as well as Afghanistan, where his infantry unit had been engaged in combat.

Military and intelligence experts will want to know how he was treated, anything he can tell them about his captors, and what he learned about insurgent capabilities.

But for the young soldier – 23 when he became a prisoner of war, now 28 – those debriefings also will include difficult questions about how and why he happened to be in a position where he fell into the hands of Taliban fighters.

There have been no reports that he was captured during direct combat, that the “fog of war” had put him involuntarily in a vulnerable location.

At this point in the developing narrative, Sgt. Bergdahl seems to have grown disillusioned with the mission, bitter about the Army and especially higher ranking enlisted men and officers, and simply walked off – gone “outside the wire” or protective base limits – and disappeared.

Yes. Everything Obama does is calculated to thumb America in the eye. What better way than to trade some of the most dangerous and committed Taliban prisoners we have in custody for one traitor?

"Military and intelligence experts will want to know how he was treated, anything he can tell them about his captors, and what he learned about insurgent capabilities."

If he went AWOL, we are assuming he had a reason to want to DIScontinue supporting the USA. A traitor like this would be busy feeding his captors information. Not the other way around.

That's why it begs the question just why the Taliban would keep the guy around for 5 years.

Answer: He was giving them great intel. Plus as a bonus, he got some US troops killed who went looking for his sorry a$$.

This puke needs a firing squad, not a hero's welcome.

What the f was Obama thinking?

If anyone had doubts that the Preezy hates America, this would be exhibit A.

Obama has a natural affection for lawless types. Same character, same name.

Recall that his SS code name is...

RENEGADE

1: a deserter from one faith, cause, or allegiance to another
2: an individual who rejects lawful or conventional behavior

I agree. If this is not high crimes and misdemeanors nothing is.

This (the Dan Witmer narrative) is a damning post. Has it been confirmed as genuine and truthful, or corroborated by anyone else? For anyone with military or Afghanistan experience, do his terminology and reference points sound genuine?

Because his world view was formulated outside the United States from a viewpoint where America was considered to be the bad guy. Every action he has taken on the foreign policy front has been done with the purpose of rectifying this viewpoint and punishing the bad guy.

Think about the place where he grew up. Think about the example of government he was taught. His teachers weren't Jefferson and Madison, Locke and Kant. His teacher was Suharto.

Well that’s just great! But what about the family’s of the men that were KIA looking for him? So eight family’s got flags and gold stars and the muzzie dad got his muzzie son back home safe. So a win win for our muzzie president. Five of his brothers gets to go free to fight another day and a mussie comes home. It’s a red letter day for Obobo.

I think it was even earlier than that, January 20th. I remember clear as day the very first day he took office the very FIRST thing he did was try to close Gitmo. That was his #1 priority above everything else, helping enemies of the US. And here you go - He just released 5 high ranking Taliban commanders.

WHAT does this jackass have to do to get impeached? Seriously, how much more of this bullsh*t do we have to go through? We have the ENEMY in the nations highest office. Just like GW Bush said “The terrorists will get us where we least expect it” and here they are, right in the White house. The guy is an Islamic agent and he has done nothing else but try to dismantle the US on every level. Just compare how they went after Nixon to this, I can’t believe this the stuff this guy gets away with I really can’t.
