A middle school history teacher in small-town southeastern Michigan has been placed on paid administrative leave because he informed students that white entertainers used to paint their faces black to imitate black people and showed kids a video about it.

All sanity gets swept away. Reasoned judgments about dealing with issues of good and evil become extreme knee jerks. “Miz Teacher, we understand, but recommend that next time you ought to just show some photographs, and mention that more can be seen in private on the internet, because some folks are touchy about it” is infinitely wiser than “Off with her head.”
Incidentally blackface is used in the Netherlands in a popular version of the St. Nicholas Christmas sub-story, in a “jolly” spin on the tale that has nothing to do with black slavery.

This teacher should run for the school board by pleading his case. If a winner he should let the admin staff know he will make their careers a living hell and to get their nazi attitudes under control until he makes it tough enough that they quit. That school deserves much better.
Black Pete and his sidekicks. Kind of analogous to the Santa Claus elves, but they come along with him to help out in some versions of the tale.
Anyhow it was all considered good fun, a traditional morality story (incidentally, Black Pete isn’t evil) until recent immigrants were both offended and puzzled.

Teachers near retirement don’t have much to fear from admin, so it can lead to some personality disputes. This just sounds like an AP with a vendetta.
