The Bergdahl swap: a full-blown Obama scandal in less than 48 hours
Human Events ^ | June 3, 2014 | John Hayward

As one of the characters in “Anchorman” observed of its bloody brawl between news teams: Boy, that escalated quickly. I mean, that really got out of hand fast.

Two days after President Obama broke the law to arrange an insanely reckless swap of five incredibly dangerous Taliban terrorists for captive American Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, virtually every aspect of the deal has blown up in Obama’s face, and the whole thing has soured into another five-star scandal for an Administration riddled with them. Maybe it’s the accumulated weight of Obama fatigue, or the sheer stupidity and arrogance the President displayed in this particular abuse of power, but even people who stood by him through Fast and Furious, Benghazi, and the IRS scandal are asking: What the hell was he thinking? What did the White House think was going to happen here?

A legitimate concern, but I think the damage is done. And the soldiers who served with this loser will not let this go (justifiably so).

“Indeed that’s true. But the House of Representatives for us, the citizenry, would have properly done its job. Even if it fails, it’s worth it.”

Just like Clinton’s impeachment, it would give some a ‘nice warm fuzzy feeling’ while setting back the conservative cause for years. Centuries of warfare have proven the futility of fighting battles you cannot win.

The PC term to use here is "alleged captive".

Stop convicting the poor innocent members of the religion of peace of kidnapping without a trial!

The actual military pros decided against putting any more troops in harm’s way to attempt any more rescue missions. Seems that word got out about his possible collaboration.

Here comes the next Miley Skankus, and sports hero scandals.

Why rescue someone who deserted, other than to try him for treason?

If that's all, we're still doing sorta okay.

And the soldiers who served with this loser will not let this go (justifiably so).

One of them called into the Tom Sullivan Show yesterday. Extremely well spoken, but you could hear the anger in his voice. He said Bergdahl was happy when they were doing exercises like helping villages make improvements, but when it came to military operations his demeanor would change. The soldier, who I believe was a medic, said that Bergdahl planned his vanishing act carefully (finding a time in the schedule when he could slip away unnoticed) and once he did it caused great disruption to operations and great danger to his fellow servicemen as he became their focus instead of the mission.

Yet Susan "danged if I know" Rice said he served honorably.

Agreed! It would turn 0 into a hero and martyr of the Left and take ALL focus off what he has done.

When someone is digging a deep hole, stay out of the way so the weight of the STUFF he's dug up can bury him by all by itself!

Keeps the STINK on the WON from whence it comes!

I think this actually feeds into the VA scandle and even Bengazi.

I agree ... all three scandals are merging into one with the heading: "Dangerously incompetent CIC"

And this isn’t just an Obama scandal, as Benghazi Clinton has now become directly involved. Jake Tapper of CNN wonders if Obama was briefing her about the Bergdahl swap, getting their political narratives in harmony, even as he was breaking the law to avoid notifying Congress.

Things that make you go hmm... Five Taliban commanders for a deserter is not the sort of calculus that is going to please anyone involved except the enemy - and they're very pleased.

“This is a historic moment for us. Today our enemy (for the) first time officially recognized our status. I can’t explain how our people are happy and excited over this unbelievable achievement. Today we reached our destination,” a senior member of the Afghan Taliban told NBC News exclusively from a hideout in Afghanistan.

List this as one of 0bama's foreign policy "achievements". Put it on the list of She Who Must Not Be Named as well. What a team.

I'm guessing that one of the 0bama Deep Think team figured that this was cover for throwing the Taliban a bone in return for some sort of future accommodation, and, as well, a means of shutting the Republicans and especially the media up over the VA scandals. Sounds like a win-win if you're fantastically out of touch and your entire world is push polls and friendly op-eds. Those are going to be a little less friendly after this - no one at even HuffPo or the Beast enjoys being made to look quite this much the fool. If rumor is correct and Jihad Johnny really is refusing to speak English then we'll have a very interesting coming-home party in Idaho. Carole King warbling "You've Got A Bomb" isn't quite the media spread the 0bama team was looking for.

Absolutely. The left and the media will immediately switch the topic from Obama’s incompetence to the racism of impeaching the first black president. Nothing to gain down that road.

Maybe the 5 released from gitmo have been recruited as double agents.

The more likely scenario is that Obama gave them the locations of our troops/bases in Afghanistan, and the locations of weapons caches. Additionally, I'm willing to bet that a huge sum of money was sent their way.

” - - - virtually every aspect of the deal has blown up in Obama’s face - - - “

Perhaps, or perhaps there is a lot more to come?

* Did AWOL, (since 6-30-09), Sgt. Bergdahl volunteer to the Taliban to be traded for 5 Taliban Leaders held by fellow Muslim Obama?

* If so, then did the Taliban make a side deal with Obama concerning information they had on Obama’s Benghazi Massacre of 2012?

* If so, then Trey Gowdy needs to include this illegal Obamadeal in his investigation of Benghazi.

* Since this illegal Obamatrade came directly from Obama, will Speaker Boehner instruct Trey Gowdy to include this Obamatrade in the House Benghazi Investigation, or will Boehner form a New House Committee?

* Did the illegal Obamatrade of one deserter, US Sergeant for five Taliban Generals benefit the Taliban more than it benefitted the US?

* Did this illegal Obamatrade “provide material assistance to a terrorist organization?” If so, then Obama has committed a Felony, by Federal Law.

* Was this illegal Obamatrade “contrary to American National Security?”

* Does any aspect of this illegal Obamatrade rise to the level of “Dereliction of Duty” by the Commander in Chief of the US Military?

* If so, would Impeachment of Obama be a deterrent punishment enough “to make sure that this never happens again?”

If that guy doesn’t spend the rest of his life in a military prison, I’m afraid the next I’ll hear about him is him walking into Walmart with a suicide vest.

TEA Party Republicans are the freshman classes of 2010, and 2012 that were elected to the US House with strong TEA Party approval.

And it sure took Benghazi and VA off the front pages

Not to mention the compromised CIA station chief. Then of course, there's the contracting economy, the war on energy and a bunch of other things.

If the majority of Republicans weren’t riding in the same limo with the Democrats, Obama would have been impeached 2 or 3 scandals ago. Disgrace upon disgrace.

In my opinion one would have to be an enemy of the U.S., or a mentally ill lunatic to continue support of this President.

I don't understand why liberals today - particularily the youth - are so supportive of Government.

Because their side is in charge. And nothing satisfies a liberal more than being in power -- and able to use government to coerce the rest of us into doing what's best for us.
