WASHINGTON – An Obama administration official apologized Thursday after suggesting on Twitter that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s platoon might have been filled with “psychopaths” – in an apparent attempt to defend Bergdahl against criticism from his fellow soldiers.

Brandon Friedman, deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, sent out a series of tweets Wednesday night questioning those soldiers trying to “smear” Bergdahl for abandoning his post in 2009.

The first said: “Here's the thing about Bergdahl and the Jump-to-Conclusions mats: What if his platoon was long on psychopaths and short on leadership?

Apologies are easy to say. What is hard to change is the personality behind that preciously smug little grin.

Whatever happened to, 'I screwed up, and obviously had my head up my ass when I composed that tweet'.

Even when some political critter makes the most egregious comments, at best we get these mealy-mouthed half-apologies...

"...choosing inappropriate language that many view as disparaging to U.S. service members.." [translation: 'not that it was actually disparaging, but many of the unwashed, knuckle-dragging, clingers might take it in such a way']

"...That was certainly not my intent..." [right]

"...I apologize to those with whom I work in the Administration, at HUD, and, most importantly, to any service members who took offense". [no qualifiers on his apology to his fellow political critters, but a pseudo-apology to those thin-skinned service members who took offense]

I also recognized the apologetic, non-apology for unintended offenses related to the specific verbiage that was used for those who took offense or interpreted his tweet in the most contemptible manner.
