Mitch McConnell just took sides in this Republican primary
Washington Examiner ^ | June 6, 2014 | 2:15 pm | Rebecca Berg

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is taking sides in the Mississippi Senate primary run-off, stepping out to help raise money for Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., against his Tea Party challenger, Chris McDaniel.

McConnell will host a "run-off reception" benefiting Cochran, a six-term incumbent, on the evening of June 10 at the National Republican Senatorial Committee in Washington.

In an email to party donors Friday, obtained by the Washington Examiner, McConnell warned that the outcome of the contest "will have a very real impact on our fight for the Majority," even though Mississippi is considered a Republican stronghold.

"Our friend Thad is in a battle in the coming weeks that will have a very real impact on our fight for the Majority," McConnell wrote. "You have helped all of us in the past, and we need your help for him now."

"It is critical that he has financial resources now, and we are going to make sure he has them," McConnell continued. "... We have been in this situation before and all of us know well from experience, this is no time to sit on the sidelines."

Indeed, McConnell recently trounced a Tea Party challenger, Matt Bevin, on his own turf in Kentucky during a primary race last month, spending millions of dollars in the process.

But Cochran's situation is unique among Senate incumbents this year. Because Cochran fell short of 50 percent in the initial primary vote last week, the race with McDaniel will head to a run-off -- . . .

So McConnell is raising money that could be spent campaigning against Democrats in November, and is instead using that money to campaign against Republicans in June. If these people had fought as hard against the Democrats as they are now fighting against Conservatives, then we wouldn't have ObamaCare.

Make a statement, Kentucky : in the general election write in "Bevin". He won't win a write-in campaign, but let the GOPe know they can't win either without conservative support -- which they need to *earn*.

You know, can I throw something out here? I really hope that I’m not hearing what I think I’m hearing.

Here’s the deal. YOu fight the fight, you do your best for your candidate, then what ever the outcome, we draw ranks and support the most electable conservative candidate. We don’t sit home and pout. The objective is to win the senate.

Historically, sitting members of the Senate don't take sides in primaries. This is a break from that tradition.

And now that it's broken.... all bets should be off.

Of course, traditionally, incumbent republicans don't appeal to democrat voters to put them over the top in primaries, either, but the liberal GOP-E is breaking lots of rules and letting us know just what they are.

Support Chris McDaniel to oust Thad Cochran in MS

Send a donation to Chris and an email to McConnell telling him about it.

Like in 2010, when Cornyn deliberately threw the Senate and backed Democrats?

Not any more.

We no longer will support the enemies of conservatism of either party.

I just got an email from Mitt R asking me to donate $5 to the NRSC. If you do so, then you are in a lottery to get to have lunch with him in Boston, all expenses paid.

Strangely, I think I’m inclined to donate the $5.

If I win, I’m going to blast the crap out of him, on behalf of everyone here at FR, and elsewhere, who believe as we do.

I would encourage everyone who got this email to do the same! (But ...no more than $5!).

The objective is to win the senate.

That's your objective. Mine is to destroy liberal republicans, so that if they do regain the Senate, they govern in a conservative manner.

Lord knows they haven't governed in a conservative manner when they've had the majority before.

Besides, Mitch has said he'll reach out to the Dems, and make it easier for them to block conservative legislation if he wins (questionable) and if the pubs win the Senate.

Personally, I hope Mitch loses the general election.

And if McDaniel wins it’ll be interesting how he and McConnell will get along together...assuming McConnell wins as well.

Your GOP-E boy. Looks like they are going to throw lots of traditions overboard to try to keep their power.

I can't wait to see them lose.
