With Bergdahl handover, proof that successful deals can be made with Taliban (They're serious!)
The Washington Post ^ | June 6, 2014 | Anne Gearan

The exchange of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five senior members of the Afghan Taliban marks the anticlimactic end of what the Obama administration once hoped would be a bold diplomatic stroke to help broker peace in Afghanistan.

Bergdahl’s return is not, as originally envisioned, a step toward a larger U.S. bargain with the Taliban and the Afghan government. Instead, Bergdahl’s release represented the last major piece of unfinished Taliban business for the United States, as it winds down 13 years of combat and prepares for the departure of all U.S. fighting forces from Afghanistan by the end of this year.

But the successful handover does prove that deals can be made and that the United States has a channel for negotiation that the next Afghan president might be able to use, said current and former U.S officials and people familiar with a classified briefing to Congress on the Bergdahl swap.

The hope is that either of the two candidates vying to succeed Hamid Karzai as Afghanistan’s leader could build on the established contacts to seek political reconciliation with the Taliban....

They got an American deserter in return for five mass-murdering terrorist leaders. I hope they continue to brag about their standards for a “successful deal”.

Surrendering to terrorists is easy if you try.

“successful deal?”
Who got the better deal? The screaming bearded savages who now have 5 more ugly-a$$ mean mother bearded savages, or the USA which got a scaredy-cat deserter?
Or 0bama who convinced a few people that he really cares about the military? (fallout from VA)

That’s like saying “only 7 killed by a gun that only holds 7 rounds proves an arbitrary limitation on the number rounds a gun holds, works”.

These clowns are really quite insane.

The Washington Post must have received a shipment of Afghani opium and hashish in the trade.

re: Neville Chamberlin laughing his head off

Not only the dead are laughing. Cameron with a little smile during press conf with O as O gets asked about the “trade.”
Putin and entire crew gotta be laughing.
And Queen Elizabeth II most likely just sees him as this little man soon to leave the stage. To her O is just a wisp o’ the wind compared to her long service where she’s seen them come and go.

Bright moment was photo of Queen being honored with flowers in the French marketplace. Made me smile.

Can I ask a stupid question? Why are we negotiating with the Taliban at all?

The Taliban were overthrown in Afghanistan, precisely because they gave safe harbor to Bin Laden.

To paraphrase George W. Bush in his major speech after 9/11, “the Taliban will accede to our demands to shut down training camps and turn over terrorists in their country, or else they will share the fate of the terrorists.”

So what exactly has changed? Isn’t the Taliban still the enemy? After the overthrow of the Nazis in World War II, would we still have negotiated with guerilla groups of Nazi fighters????

“the Taliban will accede to our demands"

That was the original negotiation with the taliban. Had they turned over Bin Laden, then we wouldn't have invaded.

Which is to say that we have always negotiated with them. The rub this time is that 0bama got rolled in the negotiations.

Just because Obama is leaving Afghanistan doesn’t mean the enemy lost. On the contrary, it means that we have lost.

THE DEMOCRATS HAVE GIVEN UP AND SURRENDERED IN AFGHANISTAN.

THE DEMOCRATS HAVE LOST THIS WAR.

That’s what they don’t want you to think about.

This is like capturing and releasing Hermann Goering, Joseph Goebbels, Franz Stangl, Josef Kramer, and Ernst Kaltenbrunner during WWII.

Which Dear Leader probably would’ve done, had he been in charge at the time. And instead of Japanese-Americans and enemy soldiers in the concentration camps, it would’ve been the Tea Party, NRA members, anti-homosexual activists, outspoken Christians and abortion opponents, I’ll wager.

On the Duffleblog military humor site, they wrote up a very telling fake story. A very sharp satire:

“Obama Trades Seoul To North Korea For Return Of USS Pueblo”

I expect a presstitute to be a Democrat, a socialist or even further left than that. I’m almost shocked when one appears who isn’t blatantly radical. Remember: Dr. Charles Krauthammer, who everyone here assumes is a Reagan conservative, is in fact a Democrat who worked for the Carter administration. Look it up.

The message of this deal, and what Obama and his supporters are saying, is that we have lost the war against terror in Afghanistan.

Sadly, the lives lost there for 9/11 were in vain.

What are we now, 10 wins and 2 losses?
