Russia's deputy prime minister called on Saturday for the name Stalingrad to be restored to the city that was the site of a key World War II battle against the Nazis.
"I never doubted the need to give back great Stalingrad its name. Not for the sake of Stalin, but for the sake of the Stalingraders," Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin wrote on Twitter.

Back to the USSR
Then will St. Petersburg revert to Leningrad??? If we continue with the Soviet nostalgia????
Frozenfreakinghell is already taken?
If they want to revert to its ORIGINAL name, it’s Tsaritsyn.
I agree.
Only communists and fascists try to bury history.
The behavior of the residents during siege of Stalingrad was one of the brightest episodes in pure human courage and endurance ever.
Yes, but it earned its place in history as Stalingrad.
Ironically, the person in charge of Stalingrad’s defense, Nikita Khrushchev, was the one who decided to change the name in 1961.
Rename Istanbul back to Constantinople, and you got yourself a deal.
I’m shooting for Hitlerville...Maotown....PolPotcity...
Lenin is responsible for loss of territories during his brief (4 years?) rule; essentially, he surrendered huge territories so that his regime, not competent militarily and not capable of fighting a strong opponent, could survive. Lenin, a third rate lawyer and populist, one who hurt Russia to elevate himself, has no chance in this competition with Peter the Great - who hurt himself to elevate Russia.
Khrushchev hated Stalin, the first thing he did when he got in power was give a 4 hour speech about how terrible Stalin’s personality cult was, condemning forced resettlements, etc..
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That’s no one’s business but the Turks...
During Khrushchev’s speech denouncing Stalin, someone shouted out, ‘Well if he was so bad, why didn’t you get rid of him?’ And Khrushchev stopped and said,’ Who said that?’ And there was silence in the hall. So he repeated himself. Who said that?’ And there was still silence, and he said, ‘Well, now you understand why we didn’t do anything.’
Russia meant nothing to Lenin, he wanted World Revolution.
Was Hitlerville already taken? Mansonberg? Mao City?
To save everyone from having to go to the link.
“”On Friday, President Vladimir Putin responded positively to a request by a Soviet veteran at the D-Day commemorations in France for the city — now called Volgograd — to return to its wartime name.””
Their country. They can call their cities anything they want.
Yes, but it gives an indication of where their country is going ideologically when they start renaming their cities after mass murderers and communist dictators.
