NEW YORK (AP) Coca-Cola is taking on obesity, this time with an online video showing how fun it could be to burn off the 140 calories in a can of its soda.
In the ad, the world's biggest beverage maker asks what would happen if people paid for a can of Coke by first working off the calories it contained. The ad, which notes that it typically takes 23 minutes of cycling to achieve that, shows a montage of people on a giant stationary bicycle happily trying to earn a can of its cola, with carnival music playing in the background.

Do you know what poison means?
——poison? -——
Not literally, but it will clean your car battery....!
Not very well.
Baking soda does it better and we put that in all sorts of foods.
I was amused by their commercial. Probably more amused than intended.. Coke also makes Powerade, a sports drink, which is 130 calories for the 20 ounce bottle. (They also make a diet version which tastes horrible, which I think is by design.)
Think about what could be achieved if you exercised 23 minutes without drinking the Coke!
Lots of people use Coca Cola as an energy drink, because with the sugar and caffeine it can really pick you up. So far as the calories are concerned, they're all a part of your total caloric intake, and don't need to be seen in isolation. My caloric needs, for example are about 2400 per day. So long as I'm under that, it doesn't matter what I eat or drink; I'll be losing weight. The idea that if you drink a coke and don't pointedly do something to "work it off" you'll retain the calories, is nonsense.
But that's the poster's point. I don't buy Coke when I'm going to the gym. I buy it when I'm having dinner or want to relax.
I drink Sam's Club cola anyway....24-pack is only $5.
I personally prefer the “Hecho En Mexico” version of Coca Cola, good old-fashioned cane sugar. Docs have told me better to drink that instead of artificially sweetened version. Note that I said I preferred them, seldom get to have one.
Is the 'carb' a new unit of measure that I've missed?
Because that wasn't covered as a unit of measure in culinary school.

Poison? You do realize don’t you that the body converts most of whatever you consume into sugars anyway? The problem with soft drinks are that it gives you more sugar than you need at one time, which the body stores as fat, and it has virtually no other beneficial nutrients. But that doesn’t make it poison. Water has virtually no beneficial nutrients either, but we don’t call it poisonous.
agree with your first comment. Not sure about 2nd one. KO has been flat for last two years but before that it tracked S&P. Pays a 3% dividend. Not bad. I usually don’t mess with individual stocks. If I did and I wanted a real safe one I would buy some KO.
On your 1st comment just about all big companies pander to the left out of fear. It’s disgusting. But this recent move by KO to advertise against their own product is mind-blowingly stupid. While it may not have the impact of the infamous “new coke” decision it is every bit as stupid.
I have never liked any artificial sweetener.
It’s interesting, aspartame is safe enough, but technically it actually is a poison. Not a very potent one.
I have a weird question. Do you think MSG tastes salty or sweet?
No, I’m referring to a 4 barrel Rochester.
Should we discuss the widespread calorie misnomer?
3000 calories = 1 pound fat
Uh, I meant analysts.....not some dude on a financial blog.
If only. It's worse, it's corn fructose syrup, not real sugar. Real sugar is healthier than what they put in Coca-Cola in the U.S.A. I buy Mexican Coca-Cola, made the old-fashioned way with cane sugar. You can get it at big-box stores like Costco, or at Mexican-run grocery stores. And it tastes so much better.
But not a 'carb' unit of measurement.

A calorie is a calorie. I burn 1000 cals an hour on the treadmill, so the day is long enough to burn a few hundred cals
Sounds about right, as that would be about 3-4 miles; I used to average about 10 miles/milkshake.
