Gov. Brian Sandoval (R, Nevada) takes a big step forward in toppling Harry Reid in 2016.

Let me set the scene: Brian Sandoval is the (popular) governor of Nevada, and he’s going to win re-election in November. Yes, yes, there’s always the chance of scandal and/or unforeseen circumstances – but last night the Democrats’ top vote-getter in their gubernatorial primary was None of the above*. Sandoval’s term-limited, so at 51 the man has to think about what happens next. Basically, there are two options for him: a Vice President spot, or the Senate. Both would involve him leaving early, which Brian Sandoval said that he wouldn’t do.. but as the RCP link notes above Sandoval said that when he ran for Nevada Attorney General. That ended up with Sandoval leaving that job (as per a Harry Reid scheme) in 2004 to go be a federal judge… and then leaving that job to run for Governor in 2010.

Not that I – or many other Republicans – really mind any of that. We typically don’t punish our politicians for deciding that, gosh and by golly, they’re going to run for something anyway. Besides, in 2010 Brian Sandoval beat Rory Reid (Harry Reid’s kid) like a red-headed stepchild. That’s the sort of thing that can endear a politician to the Republican base…

I don’t know much about Sandoval. But, I know he’s Hispanic. And in a world in which identity politics is so important, it’s hard to imagine that the GOP will have a 2016 presidential/VP ticket with two white men.

I expect him to be on the short list of VP candidates for the GOP in ‘16. Ditto Susana Martinez of New Mexico, for the same reason, to blunt the liberals talk of no diversity in the GOP.

Why would anyone want Sandoval on the presidential ticket? We need him to topple Harry Reid. I don’t think much of him, but taking out Reid in 2016 is vital.

I think I remember some shenanigans on Indian reservations during Dingy Harry’s last campaign. Has Sandoval addressed the ballot fraud bias of democrat party election strategy?

I want him to take out Harry Reid also.

Just saying, he’s Hispanic, and from a “blue” state, who might help carry that state, and curry favor with Hispanic voters.

Didn't Sandoval launch his political career as an intern under former Senator Paul Laxalt, one of Ronald Reagan's best friends? And wasn't Laxalt himself the son of a Basque sheepherder?

Given that the Basque is a region in Spain, wouldn't a staunch conservative like former Senator Lazalt count as Hispanic?

Sandoval is the GOPe in NV and has been fighting conservatives who control the party organization in the the state.

He’s one of the 95 percent who has the right kind of surname for the new population mix of Nevada, but he’s no Ted Cruz authentic conservative outsider..

I’m a registered Republican in Nevada and a Sandoval voter in the last election. My take on the governor is he is a go along to get along type of guy. He is pro immigration reform and pro
obummercare (see our failed website as proof). Yes he would be a major upgrade from hairy, but a rino in the making.

Just my 2 cents.

I believe Sandoval was at the Tea Party get together in Searchlight a couple of years ago. If so that is a feather in his cap.

Oh they still call us as a group that has a “war on woman” even though we recently had a VP candidate and they kicked their female candidate to the curb.

I met Brian Sandoval at a dinner party 2 years ago. It was a small political gathering with about 20 people total present, which gave me some time to chat with him one-on-one.

He addressed the larger gathering by stating that his goal was to make Nevada the number one business-friendly state and went over the steps he’s taking to achieve this. Nevada currently ranks around 4th to 6th place in the various business-friendly state poll rankings.

I told him after our conversation that I expected him to be on a presidential ticket sometime. He merely laughed that off. I made that prediction not because he’s of Hispanic background (note: he’s as American as any of us) but because he is impressive as an individual. His pro-growth, free enterprise agenda and basic optimism will resonate a majority of the electorate. He “gets it”, unlike any life form styling itself as a Democrat and at least half of the Republicans.

The Republicans can do much, much worse, and usually do.

I wouldn’t trade a governor for a Senator, even to get rid of a senator like Harry Reid.

Governer Brian Sandoval is up for reelection this fall, and should easily sweep into victory. As for running against Reid in 2016, Sandoval is up against Reid’s Las Vegas union buddies who Reid buys each election cycle. Sandoval needs to appeal to voters, stating he will run on a platform whereby he represents Nevada, not Washington, D.C., and although 0Bamma will leave office in January 2017, Reid has been 0Bamma’s cheerleader and has thwarted any legislation coming out of the House that 0Bamma does not support. Reid has presided over the most disappointing do nothing Senate in history, and he needs to go. At his age, maybe he’ll drop dead before 2016, but as mean and onery as he is, Reid will probably live a long and wretched existence.

Reid corruptly conspired to send a Federal army to invade Nevada nearly getting people killed just so his son could make money on a land deal.

Hairy Reid Corruption and Greed have already materialized themselves into a direct threat to literally the Lives and livelihood of Nevadian. The man needs to go, but not at the cost of a Governor who helped save those lives.

i cannot make sense of the above... will someone please explain what he is saying here?

Sandoval was such a squish on the Bundy ranch situation I wouldn’t want him on the GOP ticket.
