If I have learnt one thing working with children as a teacher, a volunteer and, more recently, a parent, it’s that what children want above all else is to fit in.
The desire not to be different must be hard-wired, so urgent is the need of your average nine-year-old to have the same pencil case as every other nine-year-old. Individuality, much prized in adult life, is abhorred by our conservative juniors, who crave acceptance as the thirsty crave water. “Fitting in” is braided into the DNA of every child, regardless of creed or colour. When the deep, resonant bell of human evolution tolls, it says: “Belong, belong, belong.”
Integrating children into a new society, then, should not present too much of a problem. A football, some Panini World Cup stickers to trade, One Direction, Harry Potter, 97 episodes of Friends, especially the one where Rachel has a baby: common interests for youngsters are not hard to find. So how have we ended up with a situation where so many Muslims are adrift from the mainstream? Why this scandal in Birmingham where five overwhelmingly Muslim schools, some until recently judged to be outstanding, are to be put into special measures because they have sought to inculcate ideas that are repellent to this country?

Every country used have it’s own culture. The USA is a melting pot. More so than other countries. The problem in the last few decades is overwhelming immigration where the immigrants seek to impose their culture on their new country. Why bother immigrating if they want to change the new country into the one they left? I realize the answer is possibly ‘world domination’. Does anyone believe it is likely?
Things are going to gt VERY interesting in Europe in the next 30 years.
But, diversity is our strength here at Diversity University.
We went from a melting pot to a tossed salad.

The left currently is going through an episode of extraordinary self-loathing and seeks to purge society of its perceived sins (mostly racial of course) by purging society of its indigenous race and culture through dilution from elsewhere, anywhere.
This leads the left to open the doors to people from Muslim countries who not only have no intent to preserve the indigenous culture, they believe their religion requires them to conquer any culture who is so foolish to as allow too many of them to move there.
So, now we have a Europe that for centuries has gone to war to preserve national identity committing slow motion cultural suicide. As the left would say in another context, this is not “sustainable”. The common man will wake up and with the recent election of UKIP, is starting to wake up to the war being waged on society by their own rulers. This will cause great political earthquakes and it has already started to happen.
The next step that logically follows is that Muslims must be suppressed somehow. Or maybe even ejected. This will not end well for anyone, I am sorry to say. Those of us who could see this coming have many wounds from the way in which leftists marginalized and dismissed our warnings. No, the left is still “hell-bent” (so to speak) on creating the perfect a-cultural Utopia, something that defies history and human nature itself.
Having followed that paper for many years, I note that its unusual (to say the least) to see such a piece in the Guardian of all places.
And the comments are nearly all very non-Guardian-like.

Ah, wait, there is a problem with the top link, its not to the Guardian at all but to the Telegraph. All’s well, my world continues to spin on its axis.
I would simply point this out to the author: those promoting the intolerably oppressive Muslim culture are willing to kill for it. And have. What price are you willing to pay to defend yours? And are you still clinging to the illusion that a response in kind makes you “no better than they are”?

It’s either that or total submission to Islam. There is no other option, no happy, peaceful melting-pot that Leftists keep pushing in defiance of logic and reality.
It’s a good thing the Americans and Europeans have made certain that no Islamic nation can ever acquire nuclear weapons.
Well, today’s Washington-LA-NYC-uber-socialist society doesn’t “like” the Muslims so much as it HATES the Christians that the Muslims also hate.
So it is “OK” to completely ignore the 7th century barbarism of the Muslim because .... well, they are not Christians.
Because they belong, belong, belong to Allah... i.e. a mock God that has rabies.
The British are almost not Christians either and that’s a problem.
It would be better to have religious clashes, as woeful as they are, than this deadly, oppressive mind numbing mush.
Yes, that is correct, logically all western societies should ban Islam. We know that won't happen. Any country that is dominated by liberal thought is doomed to failure by failing to eject violent and/or inferior cultures. Liberals just can't help themselves. To admit that some cultures are indeed regressive and inferior is to reject liberalism. They are then rejecting themselves or what they have been taught to believe their entire lives.
Oh, I don't know. I really don't see a downside here.
How long do you think this episode is going on? It started with Karl Marx, and he has been dead for 130 years.
This isn't an episode or tantrum, this is just how the left is and has always been.
I invite everyone to read the comments to the article in that Left wing rag. It is heartening. It may renew your hope in England.
