The IRS Loses Lerner's Emails
Wall Streeit Journal ^ | Wall Street Journal Editorial Staff

Posted on 06/14/2014 8:44:50 AM PDT by tedw

The IRS—remember those jaunty folks?—announced Friday that it can't find two years of emails from Lois Lerner to the Departments of Justice or Treasury. And none to the White House or Democrats on Capitol Hill. An agency spokesman blames a computer crash.

Never underestimate government incompetence, but how convenient. The former IRS Director of Exempt Organizations was at the center of the IRS targeting of conservative groups and still won't testify before Congress. Now we'll never know whose orders she was following, or what directions she was giving. If the Reagan White House had ever offered up this excuse, John Dingell would have held the entire government in contempt.

Somebody needs to go to prison for destroying these emails. A crime has been committed here.

The real crime was committed by Lerner and the rest of those involved at IRS, DOJ, FEC and FBI.

Destroying government documents of any type is a crime and destroying documents in a criminal investigation is obstruction of justice

What is very telling is that in the case if the Obama IRS Scandal, someone has made the calculation that the punishment for the crimes are going to be much much worse than the punishment for the cover up and the destruction of documents and the obstruction of justice.

This cover up as blatantly in your face as can be and it's obvious that they are openly and intentionally hiding or destroying evidence.

What they are trying to hide simply has to be about as bad as it can get for them to be doing what they are doing to prevent the truth from coming out.

Given the response, my bet is that the Republicans already have the emails from a whistle bower and they are just letting IRS and Holder dig themselves in deeper with the cover up

The truth must be devastating to obama if he’s willing to make this ridiculous claim.

The idea must have either originated with him or people close to him (aka ValJar), and supported wholeheartedly by him, with a ringing endorsement from Eric Holder.

If a private company were to “lose” emails, people would go to prison.

Come on, we have to stop giving credence to this. Everywhere I am reading people are saying: backups, redundency, etc.

EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS A LIE.

Where do we go from here, when there is not one word about it in the NY Times today?

Do we call? Who do we call, the WH, the Times, our reps, who?

This is a lie, everyone knows it, (I mean 100% of people know this is a lie, including Lois Lerner’s mother), so what happens next?

let’s get this straight. Darrell Issa is a JOKE and a BUFFOON. You don’t want him going after ANYTHING. He needs to be replaced. Now. I’ve had new Prosecutors fresh out of law school that look like Clarence Darrow compared to that idiot.

Understand this. This investigation is done. You can’t let the other side run out the clock. They have done so. Issa has blown it. Completely. Oh there will be the occasional trickle, but this needed to be jumped all over from the get go. But another grandstanding politician (Issa) has done us in.

Reminiscent of Hillary misplacing the Rose Billing Records for several years — that mysteriously appeared in a box on a dining table in the Residence.

Will wonders ever cease?

Or Sandy Bergler’s misplacing official documents — in his socks.

Amazing.

I believe Steve Stockman has already filed a request with the NSA for anything they may have.

It's just another finger in the face of Americana, All Americans.
This admin is doing whatever it wants with impunity without any reprisal or
true investigations into the corruption of our Constitution and Law.

I fear that even if the Repubs take the Senate they will still be in
the same boat and not take action, or enforce the laws.

BS the IRS Commissioner testified last month that the emails were archived.

Or maybe it is that jobs computer in California that seems to crash every time the employment numbers look really bad.

At least, with the advent of computers, laughable Lois can no longer claim her dog ate her emails.

Has Lerner's office and home computers been warranted out and confiscated yet? I haven't seen a word about that, or even if it's even being contemplated.

How about Obama's?

Well, back to my regular lotus-eating.

If the Reagan White House had ever offered up this excuse

It would have been plausible during the 1980’s. But with the redundant backups of today’s automated systems, losing e-mails is absolutely inexcusable.

Correct on pretty much all accounts in this thread.

But it doesn’t matter: The LIV believe it, the MSM will happily parrot it (well, the jury’s still out...Monday will tell) and the Republicans will do nothing about it (my faith in the latter is zero)...

In a way this should be encouraging to GOP investigators. The administration has to be very concerned about something big getting discovered for them to deploy such a ham-fisted and obviously corrupt bit of obstruction.

Those tears streaming down Obama's face on election night 2012 were not tears of joy--tears of guilt and shame. Maybe Obama knows down deep how evil he truly is.

OK, a computer crash. Let’s see the records of the crash, the work orders for repairs and interview those who submitted the orders. The techies should be able to determine if the “crash” was deliberately caused.
