17 Years After Gun Bans in Australia… Police Say Gun Crime is Out of Control

In 1996 Australia unloaded some of the most severe gun bans and gun confiscation programs on record. And for the guns that were not confiscated gun owners were forced to enter into license agreements and have their guns registered so the government knew what guns everyone had.

Well, they really only knew what guns the law abiding had, since none of the criminals actually followed the program. Fancy that.

Breitbart just reported some interesting developments in Australia that prove all the anti-gun lawmakers wrong. Gun control does NOT take guns out of the hands of criminals, it only disarms the law abiding, while making everyone less safe.

The BIG money behind 'gun control' is organized crime.

When guns are outlawed organized crime gets a billion dollar industry... and yeah, their 'donations' are carefully hidden...

It's like when Hollywood liberals are told someone from the middle east wants to destroy the ability of the United States to be energy independent... And the Hollywood traitors agree to 'hide' that part of the story.

Gun control is the same...

Obviously this author is a dupe of the gun industry.

17 Years After Gun Bans in Australia… Police Say Gun Crime is Out of Control

Who would have ever thought such a sensible ban on guns and in fact confiscation of guns in Australia, would have led to gun crimes being out of control...Just Totally Incompressible, beyond anyone's ability to even imagine the possibility.../S

And, just the the UK that has its gun crime spiraling out of control, the Aussie politicians will NOT admit their solution has not worked, Instead they will double down on more draconian gun control because nothing succeeds more for a really bad idea than its failure when it’s implemented in the real world and with real people.

The potential (and real) victims know this; the protected political class doesn’t give a damn. The more bodies, the better it is for their failed plans.

You got that correct. Gun control is about power and control over the people the Leftists hate, the hard working white middle class. They know the criminal class would be the only one left with firearms. The hidden agenda is to make the people the Leftists hate daily vulnerable to unspeakable and endless acts of violence at the hands of the Leftist’s client class......the criminal class.

There are as many guns in Australia now as there were before the ban. The difference is that only criminals now have semi-autos and pump shotguns.

A few months ago there was a poster here on FR, supposedly from Australia, who kept posting things claiming their laws were not that draconian and that most people could have their guns.

He got torn apart on those threads and I have not seen his posts since.

Thanks, OldMissileer. A lot of people remember the "old aussie's" comment.

The original article:

http://www.ballinaadvocate.com.au/news/new-plan-unveil-tackle-out-of-control-gun-violence/1992835/

Looks like the Australian solution is to go the wrong direction even faster:

” In the past 12 months, more than 9000 guns have been taken off NSW streets and 3352 people have been charged as part of ongoing investigations by Strike Force Raptor and Operations Apollo and Spartan.

Unveiling a new plan to tackle out-of-control gun violence in Sydney on Wednesday, NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said all three strike forces had been brought together to form Operation Talon.”

Yeah, some more definitive info would have helped other than “cops say”, blah, blah, blah.

It was probably me, and I stand by every comments I've ever made about guns in Australia.

This article is little but propaganda.

I support gun rights. I don't support lying as a way of trying to protect them. And, in fact, when people lie they make it much harder for the rest of us to get legitimate arguments taken seriously. American gun lobbyists lying about Australia's gun laws to try and make political capital in America, harms the rights of gun owners in Australia. And I'm getting a bit sick of that.

I am an Australian. I own guns. I know how the law works in this country because I live with that law everyday.

Law abiding citizens have no difficulty owning firearms in Australia. There are millions of legally held firearms in private hands in Australia.

Let's look at some of the article and its problems.

In 1996 Australia unloaded some of the most severe gun bans and gun confiscation programs on record.

Not true. In 1996, stricter laws were introduced, but they are nowhere near 'some of the most severe gun laws' if you compare them to those in other countries. Stricter than in the US, certainly. But nowhere near as strict as many other countries. And what is referred to as a 'gun confiscation program' was, in fact, a buy back, where for the most part the guns handed in for ready cash, were still perfectly legal and the person was free to keep them.

And for the guns that were not confiscated gun owners were forced to enter into license agreements and have their guns registered so the government knew what guns everyone had.

That was already in place before 1996. I'm not saying it's a good thing, but saying it happened as a result of the 1996 gun laws is wrong.

The New South Wales police commissioner Andrew Scipione had this to say about the spike in gun crime,

Scipione is the classic 'gun-grabber'. He'd like virtually all guns banned - so not surprisingly, his statements make the situation concerning guns to be much more severe than it is. Given him credibility by treating what he says as accurate, just plays into his hands.

So it looks like the only ones left with all the guns are the criminals.

No, there are literally millions of guns held by law abiding citizens in Australia.

In the last 12 months alone, over 3,300 people were charged with gun crimes, and over 9,000 guns have been confiscated.

No source given for this claim whatsoever, and I'd be very surprised if it is even close to being true. But the thing is, the gun grabbers regard this type of statistic as a victory, so spreading it around simply plays into their hands.
