Virginia victory gives tea party 'caffeine jolt' for coming elections
Los Angeles Times ^ | June 13, 2014 | Lisa Mascaro

As soon as a little-known conservative toppled House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Tuesday night, tea party enthusiasts turned their sights to the next big election-year targets: Mississippi and Kansas.

The two states are next up on the GOP's primary calendar as Washington insiders, particularly 76-year-old Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi, are fighting hard-right upstarts in an environment in which outsiders have suddenly gained currency.

New ads went on the air in Mississippi two days after Cantor's defeat, hammering Cochran as a veteran lawmaker who deserves respect — but not another term in office. In Kansas, Milton Wolf, who is challenging three-term Sen. Pat Roberts, said on Twitter that Cantor isn't the only incumbent "who is going to lose his primary this year."

For most of this election cycle, the tea party has struggled to capture the small-government enthusiasm that gave it power in 2010 and 2012. Now, the Virginia results have given the movement's activists new optimism.

Republican Tom Davis, a former congressman from Virginia, said the victory was like a "caffeine jolt" for tea party groups.

"It'll embolden them for the rest of the primary season," Davis said on Bloomberg TV's "Political Capital with Al Hunt."

Actually, that is not a correct quote. What he said was: "Cantor isn't the only incumbent from Virginia who is going to lose his Primary this year. Pat Roberts is next." A dig at Roberts who does not live in Kansas, but lives in Virginia where his wife is registered to vote, and Roberts rents a recliner from friends in Kansas.

Someone needs to tell Milton Wolf to do something about that hair style. He looks like the professor on the “Back to the Future” movies with Michael J. Fox .

Do people in KS even know that Roberts “lives” in VA? And would it matter to them, such Robert J. Dole did also?

Yeah, they know. Wolf has made that a major issue.

According to the Los Angeles Times, “Tea Party” should not be capitalized. Well, that sign of disrespect should be reciprocal. That's why we call them the Los Angeles SLIMES.

After laughing at how the TEA party was dead, they are all panicked over one major victory...

Graham and McDonnell just scraped by- they could have lost with a little more concerted effort- they had to spend millions to do it.

I wish they were this panicked at the thought of Democrats beating them

Does Virginia allow crossover voting where Dems can vote in a weak, primary Rep candidate who gives Dems the win in November?

Well, Varangian1488, since you addressed your comment to me, I assume you are saying: “Replacing a failure (Cantor) with a failure (Brat).... How do you know Brat is a failure? He has not yet served one day in Congress. On what do you base your assumption that he is a failure? He’s a well-respected Economics Professor at a University. If you wouldn’t make statements like that, people wouldn’t know just what an ignorant, RINO lover you really are.

Who shives a git? At least we got rid of that backstabbing, power-hungry, lying, piece of s**t, Eric Cantor. I’d vote for a one-eyed crack whore before I’d vote for that 2-faced punk.

My point was, I wanted to post this to piss you off so you would write an uncalled for, dumb a** comment like you just did so I could tell you to go screw yourself punk.
