The Sharia term for halal slaughter is dhakat. Dhakat is to slaughter an animal by cutting the trachea, the esophagus, and the jugular vein, letting the blood drain out while saying “Bismillah allahu akbar”—in the name of Allah the greatest.

Many Christians, Hindus or Sikhs and Jews find it offensive to eat meat slaughtered according to Islamic ritual (although Jews are less likely to be exposed to such meat, because they eat kosher). The issue for many Christians is that in halal slaughter, an imam offers the animal up as a sacrifice to Allah which makes it meat sacrificed to idols.

I personally have long believed that a lot of food served in the US is prepared in an acceptable manner to observant Jews and Muslims (simply in the interests of reaching as broad a market as possible). I don’t believe most other people would care either way.

Biggest myth EVER! No, kosher meat is NOT “blessed by the Rabbi”. The slaughter process is overseen by a rabbi, but “blessing the meat” is not what makes it kosher.

Better get your facts straight before presenting them to the world as “fact”. The MODERN kosher slaughterhouses do NOT hoist the animals to then slit their throats. Mostly those holdout old fashioned kosher slaughterhouses are the ones in South America or in the hinterlands. In the modern kosher slaughterhouses (and I hope they quickly close any other kind) they are walked into a humane kill squeeze box with a hole at one end, where they thrust out their head. They are calm and not overly agitated. Then they have their throats slit. Dr. Temple Grandin, the grand dame of humane slaughterhouses, has written that animals treated in such a manner did not attempt to move away from the slaughter knife.

So in other words, you’re admitting that traditional kosher slaughterhouses, as well as current kosher slaughterhouses “in South America or in the hinterlands” (wherever the “hinterlands are), DO “hoist the animals to then slit their throats.”

Well gee, since that’s a “straight” FACT in the world even today, and even you admit it, do I get to “open my mouth anyway” about it? Or should I ask your permission first?

Also, good thing “modern” kosher slaughter is done “everywhere” within first world countries, and that there are no “hinterlands” in first world countries. Because that would mean your nasty mouth should have stayed doubly shut before you opened it. And with so MUCH to say, that would be hard to bear, now wouldn’t it?
