The world we live in today is complex and the nation is obviously much more complex than it was in 1776. With over 300 million diverse people from all walks of life and socio-economic backgrounds living together, most viable public policy solutions of the modern era, don't fit neatly on a bumper sticker or get solved by simplistic slogans.
I think most American people want responsible elected representatives to work in and through our democratic government institutions to address and solve important public problems while adhering to the principles in our founding documents, supporting free, but fair markets and fiscal responsibility.
They generally do not want representatives who assault, undermine and obstruct the democratic process that helps provide, freedom, order, and viability to a civil society.
The anti-government, Tea Party crowd often opposes government just because it's government without much thought beyond that. For instance, many anti-government forces have the desire to sell TVA and it's network of dams and power plants that control flooding, provide recreational opportunities, promote commerce and give us lower cost power than the private sector to operate our homes and businesses. About 13% lower, according to a recent independent study.

The democrats know they can't elect one of their own in Tennessee, so they do the next best thing, protect and help to reelect a good moderate republican that gives them a vote on all their important issues, or short of that, votes for cloture.
Um, that would be 'we the people'
The anti-government, Tea Party crowd often opposes government just because it’s government without much thought beyond that.
Stupid. Didn’t bother to read further.
Joe Carr must be making a move/dent in the polls.
Still awaiting results from Davidson County Republican Picnic straw poll from yesterday. Beat Lamar! folks expressing some concerns about the ballot box.
Barry Goldwater would be a liberal to this crowd. Most probably don’t even know who he was.
Huh?
What cho talkin’ bout?
Actually, BMG moved far to the left in icrements after his 1964 bid. By the time he turned the seat over to McPain, McCain seemed “conservative”.
People in TN have heard of Lamar!, and that’s what will save him. I still don’t know why they reject algore.
Exactly, the TN Republicans are too uninformed to know better.
The only thing that Lamar “brings to the table” is a steamy bowl of progressive excrement. Bob
Last poll showed Joe Carr's name recognition above 60%. That is a huge number, considering he was probably at 1% in December.
Does the Constitution give the Federal government authority to operate the TVA? If not, it needs to go.

Obviously the person that wrote this 'news article' is completely ignorant of history. I doubt they would last five minutes in 1776. Life for the average person back then was probably more complex and definitely far more dangerous.
You may have to make up your results...

Unfortunately, this great event was marred by a conflict involving the straw poll.
Every year attendees vote in a straw poll stating their position a select number of
issues and choosing between competing Republicans for office. The most anticipated
straw poll result this year was the contest between Alexander and Joe Carr.
I don’t know the details of exactly what happened but understand someone alleged
ballot box stuffing. The ballot counting was being led by Mark Rodgers and someone
questioned his integrity and it was reported that there was a heated exchange. Rodgers
had about four or five people helping him count ballots and one of them was wearing
an Alexander tee shirt. Someone alleged that that was improper for an Alexander
supporter to be helping count ballots. Where one would have find a vote counter without
a preference at a Republican picnic, I don’t know. In any event, it is my understanding
that the straw poll was not tallied and ballot counting was terminated. Chairman Duvall
made an announcement that the result of the straw poll would be delayed and we would
be notified of the results of the straw poll by email or on the party website. I suspect
we will be hearing more about this and I will update when I know more.
Good find. Dirty dealing can redound to Carr’s benefit, depending on how Lamar!’s people try to spin it.
I still do not have a clue as to how savvy his team is.
That’s exactly where I stopped reading.
From the Beat Lamar! facebook page
The results of the Joe Carr vs Lamar Alexander straw poll have STILL not yet been posted! We were told that the Alexander campaign team tried to participate in the vote count (totally unsportsmanlike, of course) and the Davidson County Republican Party officials took over the count and kicked the Alexander people out of the count.
Barry Goldwater DID become a Liberal before he died. Many think it was due to the influence of his new, younger wife. He even espoused abortion in his latter years.
