Great questions which contrasts sharply with the CBS online report:
WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service says it has lost a trove of emails to and from a central figure in the agency's tea party controversy. The IRS told congressional investigators Friday it cannot locate many of Lois Lerner's emails prior to 2011 because her computer crashed that year. Lerner headed the IRS division that processed applications for tax-exempt status.
...The IRS was able to generate 24,000 Lerner emails from the 2009 to 2011 because Lerner had copied in other IRS employees. The agency said it pieced together the emails from the computers of 83 other IRS employees.
But an untold number are gone. Camp's office said the missing emails are mainly ones to and from people outside the IRS, "such as the White House, Treasury, Department of Justice, FEC, or Democrat offices."

Her own actual article is posted though
What does the NSA know, and What does their Meta Data Reveal?
I’m going to do a quick copy/paste of exactly how email is managed and stored across an enterprise. Mostly, cuz I’m lazy and don’t feel like spending hours writing it out....
Just because her computer crashed doesn’t mean everything on her hard drive is lost.
They’re recording all our data.
But they don’t record their own?
Ah, because HER computer crashed??? No freaking way they are lost unless the server copies are gone. It is utter horsehockey (or intentional incompetence) that only local copies constitute the required archiving of emails.
I tried to find the IRS sop but ran into “server not found”
When the opposition leaders of the congress have all had spinaldectomies, there is no one to stop them.
Just another stall, the servers didn’t crash.
These Obama cronies are criminals. I’m am totally disgusted with Obama and his administration.
Good questions but, my 1st response is “Forget all that. It didn’t happen”.
Give me Admn to throughout network(not gonna happen) and I can pull every email she ever sent or received....
They are stored in too many places for them to simply disappear and the information that disappeared is way to specific....
They would have lost all her emails or most everything and even that is not possible...
But an untold number are gone. Camp's office said the missing emails are mainly ones to and from people outside the IRS, "such as the White House, Treasury, Department of Justice, FEC, or Democrat offices."So, just as the IRS was able to reconstruct the internal emails from the recipients computers, those other agencies, in cooperation with the Congressional investigation, can provide copies from their archiving of the recipient's email. Right?
If a disk failed it would be removed, a new disk installed, and data restored from backup. Why were only these messages not: a) restored, or b) not on backup media?
That’s the simple scenario. In reality the infrastructure for an enterprise of this scale likely has RAIDed disks to ensure fault tolerance, a failed disk will not result in data loss. They may even have fail-over servers to guard against disruption, and store data on a SAN
Lerner is lying.
To prove it subpoena the IT persons responsible for a) the e-mail infrastructure, b) Disaster Recovery, and c) hardware support & maintenance
Um....isn’t tampering with/destroying evidence a felony in and of itself?
And oh can’t forget this: imprison Lerner. The House has previously imprisoned persons who destroyed documents to prevent their production. Spending summer in a cell will give her time to think things over.
Ok, it’s NOT a “tea party” controversy,
it’s an IRS scandal!!!
It’s a regime scandal, among many others but
the most serious and one that reaches high into
the administration, the abuse of government by ANY
party for it’s own political aims should carry the
highest punishment.
I saw a tweet earlier that the IRS was also saying now that the backups had been “recycled” - have to look for more on that.
From the NYT (!) today: “The agency said that because of financial and computing constraints, some emails had been stored only on individuals computers and not on servers, and that backup tapes from 2011 no longer exist because they have been recycled.
