WHITEHEAD: Has the Dept. of Homeland Security become America’s standing army?
The Rutherford Institute ^ | June 16, 2014 | John W. Whitehead

Posted on 06/16/2014 4:02:13 PM PDT by stevie_d_64

“A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty.”—James Madison

“Here [in New Mexico], we are moving more toward a national police force. Homeland Security is involved with a lot of little things around town. Somebody in Washington needs to call a timeout.”—Dan Klein, retired Albuquerque Police Department sergeant

If the United States is a police state, then the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is its national police force, with all the brutality, ineptitude and corruption such a role implies. In fact, although the DHS’ governmental bureaucracy may at times appear to be inept and bungling, it is ruthlessly efficient when it comes to building what the Founders feared most—a standing army on American soil.

The third largest federal agency behind the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense, the DHS—with its 240,000 full-time workers, $61 billion budget and sub-agencies that include the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, Secret Service, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)—has been aptly dubbed a “runaway train.”

In the 12 years since it was established to “prevent terrorist attacks within the United States,” the DHS has grown from a post-9/11 knee-jerk reaction to a leviathan with tentacles in every aspect of American life. With good reason, a bipartisan bill to provide greater oversight and accountability into the DHS’ purchasing process has been making its way through Congress.

Of course. What do you think the real reason was for the Patriot Act? It sure wasn’t to fight Terrorism any more than RICO is to be used only for Organized Crime.

Well, yeah . . . sure, but once the citizenry has been disarmed and no longer present a threat, don’t you think they’ll downsize again or simply disband?

The liberty or constitutional rights of American citizens are most definitely not the objectives. ( more like: the targets).

But we’re safe. No eighty year old nun with crutches will be able to board a redeye flight to Phoenix wearing RDX panties and detonator disguised as a crucifix.

DHS is a Fascist arm of the US government, but they are not effective army. As long as there is a 2a and massive gun ownership, the DHS loses the numbers game. In PA alone, there are four times as many hunters than all DHS employees. There are many more gun owners. These are the so-called bitter clingers. While metrosexual and androgynous males of cities may surrender to the DHS, real men in the country will not be intimidated by these bumbling fools of the DHS. DHS loses a war on moral grounds. DHS loses a war based on there is nothing to fight for. Real Americans will fight for freedom, liberty and their property and when not constrained by politicians. There isn’t a more effective fighting force in the world. It just needs to be organized.

Have you factored in just about every Police Dept. in America as whores in MRAPs for the DHS against the people?

By the way, if the DHS purchases all of this 'counter-terrorism' stuff, why did Obama just set 5 highly dangerous Taliban commanders free?

Soon the railway cars and large ovens.

nope. we learned from nazi germany in the '30s. there are more of us than them and we will not go gentle into the good night. "Lord, make my hand fast and accurate. Let my aim be true and my hand faster than those who would seek to destroy me. Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine. Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun." And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home Let me die in a pile of empty brass." Amen
