Sixteen Republican Senators Vote For Cloture On Gun Control Bill (Lamar Alexander, AYE!)
redstate.com ^ | 4/11/13

Remember these sixteen names when they run for office again.

The sixteen Republicans who voted to proceed were Sens. Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), Kelly Ayotte (N.H.), Richard Burr (N.C.), Saxby Chambliss (Ga.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), Susan Collins (Maine). Bob Corker (Tenn.), Jeff Flake (Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Dean Heller (Nev.), John Hoeven (N.D.), Johnny Isakson (Ga.), Mark Kirk (Ill.), John McCain (Ariz.), Pat Toomey (Pa.) and Roger Wicker (Miss.).

List courtesy The Hill.com.

As reported by RedState yesterday, this bill would allow doctors to add a person’s name to the national database currently used for background checks, and list them as mentally ill, thus denying them a gun, and doing so without informing the patient or letting them present a defense before their name gets put into the computer.

The proposal will allow a doctor to add a patient to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) without ever telling the patient he or she has been added.

There would be no due process requirement. Not all doctors will be able to do it with the same ease, but many will. Knowing a doctor could add him to a federal database as mentally ill without his knowledge could potentially dissuade a patient from going to the doctor in the first place to get help.

Worse, if the doctor does so and makes a mistake, the patient would have to actively work through the system to get himself removed — guilty before being proven innocent.

And now sixteen Republican Senators have decided that this bill can move forward. To call it disgraceful is too mild a word.

Remember this, when they voted "to proceed to debate" on a Thursday, but then there was no debate. The votes for the bills were on the following Wednesday!!

Because with Harry Reid in charge, voting for cloture to "proceed to debate" means "we can vote on the bills now!"

And Lamar Alexander loves to help Harry Reid get bills through cloture!

Does this have to get through the House too? They might stop it there.

This is from last year. All the bills failed. I just wanted to remind people of Lamar’s vote to help Harry Reid get the gun bills to a vote.

There is no chance that this will be abused for political reasons - [cough...IRS...cough].

My doctor is from Egypt. I suspect he’s Jewish as his name certainly is. He’s uber-liberal. (I’d call him a communist, actually.) Long before anybody brought this up he put on his form, do you own a gun? (I had one in my pocket.) I said no, which let me out from answering the many follow-up questions.

But I can see a time when ammunition purchase information would be forwarded to my doctor. Already, if I look up tires I’m spammed with tire ads. Obamacare would connect the dots as they’d know my doctor. Then the software would tell him I lied about the gun, which would probably automatically put me on the list.

The time is coming when if you buy ammo and live in a gun-controlled state you’d better have that gun registered or they’ll bust your door in. I’d pay cash, but how does one do that when you buy off the internet? (The local prices are MUCH higher.)

It's a start, I suppose.

Now if the crowd hellbent on removing Mike Enzi and Pat Roberts (who you will voted the RIGHT way on this bill because they are far MORE conservative than Lamar!) would donate even 1/10th of the energy promoting Joe Carr as they do "Obama's conservative cousin", we might have a shot at removing a real RINO.

Our doctor is a lib as well. He told Mr D back when obozocare was first discussed that it would be good for all of us. He has never asked us about gun ownership. Maybe he is not so sure about obozocare anymore.

There was a freeper who used the word 'nitpicking' in an email and got a bunch of ads popping up for lice medicine.

If a doctor has good cause to put a person in the NICS system as mentally ill, he/she should be seeking to have that person involuntarily committed.

Any person who is so mentally ill that they can not be trusted to legally buy guns should be locked up because:

a) They can easily obtain guns illegally.

b) They can kill many people by means other than guns.

While I appreciate the article, it would have been helpful to have a disclaimer up front regarding the time frame of this.

I was about to pick up the phone and let my senator have it on this. But with it being a year old they wouldn't have known what I was talking about.

btw...i did call last year.

Yes. All bills must pass both house and senate.

The time is also coming when you will have to give up the internet. The only one who can keep secrets on the net is Lois Lerner.

That will ease the Obamacare caused Doctor shortage.

Now people won’t go to the Doctor just like they don’t visit the IRS.

“Why deal with anyone from the middle east? “

I didn’t have a clue as his English is perfect. I only found out by accident he’s from Egypt and goes back regularly. Now, because I don’t have insurance I can’t get a regular doctor. But I could still get in to see him and get prescriptions if I needed.

A doc in the box will not give me the scripts I need without duplicating the expensive tests my doc has on record.
